Lake Orion HS Newsletter
Week of October 28th
Week of December 16, 2024
LOHS Families,
As we approach the much-anticipated holiday break, I want to take a moment to reflect on this incredible semester and the journey we’ve taken together. Let’s finish this week out strong, giving our very best effort in the classroom and supporting one another as a school community.
The holiday season is a time to relax, recharge, and celebrate. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to slow down, enjoy the people around you, and appreciate the small moments that make this time of year so special. I encourage everyone to have a safe and joyful break filled with moments of laughter and rest.
As we step into the new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the past—celebrating the successes and learning from the challenges. The new year offers us all a fresh start to set new goals, embrace opportunities, and strive to be the best version of ourselves.
We are grateful for the hard work, dedication, and energy that each of our students brings to our school, and we look forward to continuing this journey of growth and achievement together in the coming year.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season!
Anthony Kiner
Associate Principal (Juniors Students, A – Z)

Service Learning Spotlight
X2VOL
Instead of getting caught up in what items to put on a wish list or gifts to buy, spend some time thinking about giving to others. The holidays are an important time for our students to give back to their community and helping others is the best way to spread holiday cheer. Students might even adopt an “attitude of gratitude”!
Please encourage your student to check the email from Ms. P on the MANY December Service Opportunities or look on the LOHS Service Learning website. All opportunities are listed in x2VOL under the Green “Find Opportunities” button with DECEMBER in the title.
Acorn2Oak Grant Opportunity
The Acorn2Oak grant program empowers Oakland County's young residents, ages 8 to 18, to pursue their passions and talents. These grants, which can be up to $1,000, support a wide range of initiatives, from entrepreneurial ventures to community impact projects. By providing financial support, Acorn2Oak aims to inspire personal growth, civic engagement, and leadership development among the youth in Oakland County.
Parking Passes and Unauthorized Vehicles
Please take a moment to remind your child that students at Lake Orion High School are required to obtain a parking pass to park legally on campus. Recently, we’ve put up signs indicating that any unauthorized vehicles will be towed by Buckhorn, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter.
To ensure a smooth parking experience, students can purchase their parking passes before school or during lunch. We’ve noticed an increase in vehicles parked in unauthorized areas, so please remind your student to park only in designated spots.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our campus organized and safe!
For more information please visit the LOHS Student Parking website.
LO-AM
Last week of live broadcasts for 2024!
We're producing our live newscast LO-AM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Friday's show will include our annual telling of The Night Before Christmas. (Remember our story request deadline is 7:00 a.m. on show days.)
Plus, on Wednesday we are streaming the "Winter Wonderland" combined band & choir concert at 11 a.m. You can watch the same way you watch everything we produce, and no subscription is required.
And we'll have Varsity Basketball on Thursday & Friday night.
Tune in at www.dragonbroadcasting.org. Remember sports broadcasts require a subscription of $11.99/month, but nearly half of that money comes back to our broadcast program to help pay for equipment which allows us to continue to provide the event broadcasts.
Happy Holidays everyone!

MLK 2025 Contest
Open for students in Grades K-12
Each year, the Cultural Outreach Committee strives to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by offering something special to our community. This year, LOCS is excited to lift our students’ voices. We invite students to share their perspectives on Dr. King’s profound statement, “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly,” through various forms of expression, including short essays, poetry, multimedia, or artwork.
Dr. King’s vision of equality and justice continues to inspire us, and we believe that our students’ unique insights and creativity can contribute to this ongoing dialogue. By participating, students not only celebrate Dr. King’s legacy but also reflect on how his message resonates in today’s world.
For questions regarding this year's contest, please refer to the entry form.
Important Note: Senior updates and more information can be found on the Lake Orion High School website under the Senior Class of 2025 page or our new Class of 2025 Smore.
