Something to think about
Falling for Readinng
Cozy fall evenings are perfect for curling up with a book. As the cooler weather and shorter days bring your student inside earlier, take advantage of the time to get him booked on reading.
Story Hour
Reading aloud to yuour student: Try choosing a book that 's slightly harder than one he can read on his own. The more complex plots and bigger words will stretch his comprehension skills and vocabulary. Pls, getting a sneak peek at what older kids are reading can be a real motivator.
A Family Habit
Promote regular reading with a "What We're Reading" bulletin board. Provide sticky notes, and have each family member post a note to let everyone know what they are reading. When others are reading, your student will want to read also! Tip: Encourage visitors (grandparents, friends) to contribute to the board.
Pass the Poetry
Sit in a circle and pass around a book of poetry. Each person opens the book, reads aloud the first poem they see, and passes the book on. Suggest that your student copy and collect favorite poems in a binder to make his own poetry collection
Visit the Library
Guarantee your student a steady supply of fresh reading material by taking him to the library often.

FROM THE DISTRICT
Gifted Visual and Performing Arts Referral Process
Each year school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater, and Dance. If you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and would like for them to be screened for possible gifted identification in that particular area, please complete the Visual and Performing Arts Nomination Form.
Click here to learn more about the two-phase VPA gifted identification process.
Nominations will be accepted until noon on Monday, November 20, 2023, and will only be accepted using the Google link above.
If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Boyle at gjpsgifted@gjps.org.
