Worship Service September 29
“Hope: A Status Report" with Peter Jabin
There are so many voices speaking to these unprecedented times in which we live, times for which our species truly has no reference. To find a path forward, we must slow down and listen. Please join us for an impressionistic message, a collage, if you will, in multiple voices seeking to discern new meanings for the idea and, more importantly, the experience of hope.
Speaker Bio: Peter Jabin, M.Div., LMHC is a pastoral psychotherapist in private practice. He received his M.Div. from University of Chicago, with post-graduate work at e Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago. Peter is a Diaconal Minister in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has trained in the facilitation of grief rituals with Francis Weller and others. Peter lives and works in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle, with his canine companion, Thatcher.

Pastoral Care Team
Congregants, please remember that Rev. Mary’s absence does not mean that spiritual or emotional support is absent, too! The Pastoral Care Team (PCT) is a caring group of individuals who serve at the invitation of Reverend Mary and extend the care of the congregation to those who are in special need.
If you would like support from the Pastoral Care Team, you can identify members on Sunday mornings or at other church events by looking for the green Pastoral Care stoles they wear. If you are not physically at church, you can reach out via email, and a team member will get back to you shortly to see how they can be of service.
Your Pastoral Care Team members are as follows:

Legacy Giving at OUUC: What You Should Know
A Legacy Gift is a “planned gift” made through a will or other formal estate planning document that names OUUC as a beneficiary. Arranging for a Legacy Gift is a meaningful way to express your faith, values and commitment to ensure OUUC provides a spiritual home for generations to come.
Tomorrow you should receive an email from Gail and Fritz Wrede sharing why they included OUUC in their estate plans. The email will also include links to the Legacy Giving page on our website and to a brief confidential survey to help us determine who has already made a planned gift and who is interested in getting more information. We hope you will participate!
Also, please attend the after-church forum on Legacy Giving this coming Sunday, September 29, and pick up more information at the table in the Commons either this Sunday or on October 6.
And, if you can’t wait to learn more, here is the link to the new Legacy Giving page on OUUC’s website.

Books Brownies & Beans
Did you know there are only three weeks left to donate books to this year's Books Brownies & Beans sale? The last day to donate books is Tuesday, October 15th. We are behind in the number of books that have been donated so far so we would love for you to spend a little time going through your shelves to donate books you no longer need and to make room for books you will purchase at the sale!
Please help us by spreading the word! You could collect books from family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. If you have a lot of books and would prefer them to be picked up rather than carting them to the church, please email here to arrange a pickup.
We also have an urgent need for someone to help with external publicity during the next month. A few hours from you working with others on the team would help us spread the word. You can email here to learn more.
Listening with Delight: Music Appreciation for Non-Musicians
In this 3-session class with Josie Solseng, specifically designed for adults with little or no musical background, we will peek behind the curtain of Western music. Let’s demystify rhythm, melody, & harmony, learn how music is connected to math, get up close and personal with real instruments, and write our own tune. What makes songs sound happy or sad? Why do rounds work? Where’s the best place to clap along with a song? Why do orchestras tune to an oboe? What are some surprising things musicians never tell you? These secrets and more will be revealed; resources for further exploration will be provided. Register here.

Join us for Still Here, a virtual vigil to honor the spiritual work toward ending violence. Through a litany of loss, of outrage and resistance, we are still here. We honor the ongoing struggle for justice following the Solidarity with Palestinians Action of Immediate Witness, advocating for a ceasefire, release of hostages, humanitarian aid, and an end to military funding of genocide in Palestine and the world. Our UU Vigils for Gaza, open to all, are part of a series that invites us to grieve, learn, and hold space for one another.
Read more and register here.
