Thank You for Supporting the Candy Buy Back!
Thanks to the best Candy Buy Back partner Sunray Pediatric Dentistry, Canyon View was able to collect 117 pounds of candy earning $75 back to support the school. In partnership with other local PUSD schools, Sunray collected dozens of boxes equaling hundreds of pounds of candy which they will send to our soldiers overseas through the Soldier Angels Program. Thank you to Sunray Pediatric Dentistry for partnering with us each year to support this great organization.

CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families
Specially Curated by Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech: Fiction and Non-Fiction
While every day is a great day to practice kindness, World Kindness Day on November 13 provides an opportunity for families to focus on this all-important skill! World Kindness Day was first launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, an organization formed at a 1997 Tokyo conference of kindness organizations from around the world. There are currently more than 28 nations involved in The World Kindness Movement, an organization with the mission of creating a kinder world by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness. These picture books feature stories about cultivating and choosing kindness.
Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light, written and illustrated by Apryl Stott
Bear is sad. All the other animals think he’s mean because he’s so big. But his human friend, Coco, offers to help him. Coco shares her grandmother’s advice: “When life gets dark as winter’s night, share some kindness, bring some light.” They decide to bake cookies to “share some kindness” and make lanterns to “bring some light.” But when the cookies and lanterns don’t work, they must look for another way to win over the other animals. And while they’re at it, Coco and Bear just might discover that kindness is a gift that only comes from the heart.
Kindness Is A Kite String: The Uplifting Power of Empathy, written by Michelle Schaub and illustrated by Claire LaForte
Cultivating kindness is easy when you try. Spread a little kindness and watch empathy ripple through the community… spreading happiness like sunshine, connecting diverse groups like a footbridge and lifting hope like a kite string.
How can YOU lift others with kindness? This compelling book illustrates simple, yet impactful ways to spread kindness and brighten the lives of others. Through poetry, the inspiring words uplift young readers, planting seeds of empathy, kindness and community support.
Come With Me, written by Holly M. McGhee, illustrated by Pascal Lamaitre
When the news reports are flooded with tales of hatred and fear, a girl asks her papa what she can do to make the world a better place. “Come with me,” he says. Hand-in-hand, they walk to the subway, tipping their hats to those they meet. The next day, the girl asks her mama what she can do—her mama says, “Come with me,” and together they set out for the grocery, because one person doesn’t represent an entire race or the people of a land. After dinner that night, the little girl asks if she can do something of her own—walk the dog . . . and her parents let her go. “Come with me,” the girl tells the boy across the hall. Walking together, one step at a time, the girl and the boy begin to see that as small and insignificant as their part may seem, it matters to the world.
In this lyrical and timely story, author Holly M. McGhee and illustrator Pascal Lemaître champion the power of kindness, bravery, and friendship in the face of uncertainty.
CATCHING UP WITH... Parking Lot Safety Reminders
IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE GREEN CONE ZONE IS FOR SPECIAL DAY CLASS FAMILIES ONLY
Additional Parking Lot Reminders
- Attention TK/K Families: You are not required to park and walk students to the gate for drop-off. Use our drive-through drop-off instead. We have supervision from the curb to the blacktop from 8:20 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Please continue to park and pick-up from the gate at dismissal.
- Attention Grade 1-5 Families: Do not park in the lot for drop-off or pick-up. Instead, use the supervised drive-through pick-up curb west of the office. This allows sufficient parking for our staff, and TK/Kindergarten families.
- Curbside Drop-off/Pick-Up: Use our designated drop-off/pick-up area to the west of the office only. Do not ask your child to meet you anywhere else in the lot. While this might seem faster for you, it slows down our system for everyone and creates a safety hazard.
