Falcon Newsflash
Come to Course Fair!
The LAKE was an exciting place to be this week. We rolled out course selection for the 2024-25 school year, took a STAAR field test, competed in regional tournaments in diving, swimming, and wrestling (results pending at the time this publication was prepared), AND we got to celebrate our AMAZING Counselors and Crossing Guards. There are so many front-line and behind-the-scenes support personnel that make LAKE great, and we cannot say Thank You enough to these wonderful people...but we definitely make our best attempt thanks to our fantastic Falcon Student Council. 😁
This week, we invite all underclassmen to join us on Tuesday at 7 pm for Course Fair at the LAKE. Come explore as many course options as you like, meet the teachers, talk to other Falcons who have taken the classes, and make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about which classes you want to take next year. We will also have some breakout sessions in the PAC if you would like information on the Dual Credit and Advanced Academic programs.
Don't forget that Rock the LAKE is coming on March 7th with Daisy Day. Ticket sales open online on February 19th. Tickets will be limited, so first-come-first-serve. Students may only purchase their own ticket. IDs will be verified on the day of the concert when they pick up their wristbands for entry. Students who are not in good attendance standing at the time ticket sales open will not be allowed to attend the concert or purchase a ticket.
It's going to be a great week at the LAKE!

Transcripts Now Avalible to View in Your Parent Skyward Account
CCISD has added access for parents to view their student's unofficial transcript in Skyward. The unofficial transcript is viewable from your parent Skyward account only. A PDF copy of the student's unofficial transcript has been loaded as an attachment in the Report Card section of Skyward. Please note that the version of the unofficial transcript you will see is not a live document. This means that if there are any updates to the transcript after today’s date, those updates will not be visible until the transcript is posted again at the end of the school year. We will make the student's unofficial transcript available to parents after every fall and spring semester ends.
By school district policy, the GPA and rank for 9th and 10th graders will not be available on the mid-year transcript; but it will be available on the transcript published at the end of the school year. The GPA and rank for 11th and 12th graders is available on both the mid-year and end-of-year transcript.
Falcon Spotlight
For the first time in the history of CLHS, our Falcon Thespians have taken a competitive step into the world of film production. We are proud to announce that not only did they enter their first film into the UIL competition, but their film has advanced to the SEMI-FINALS! Way to go Theater!

Course Selection 24-25
Course Selection deadline - Tuesday, FEBRUARY 20th
Course selection is open. Students must enter their course requests in Skyward by Feb. 20, 2024.
Course Fair at the LAKE will be held in the CLHS Commons on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Course Fair is an opportunity for students to visit with teachers about the courses they teach to help students make informed choices about the classes they choose for next year. If you have an incoming 9th grader, we will host a parent/student meeting in the CLHS Performing Arts Center from 6 to 7 p.m. that same night. Breakout sessions on Dual Credit and Advanced Academic Programming will also be held in the PAC during the course fair.
Infomercials have been created by our teachers to help students learn more about the courses currently offered at LAKE. The new Educational Planning Guide EPG is available online HERE. Hardcopies are also available upon student request in the College and Career Center. The EPG contains a lot of information to help students learn more about high school academic program offerings, course descriptions, and graduation requirements.
Students must enter their course selection AND their alternate course preferences directly into Skyward by Feb. 20, 2024. In April, students will have an opportunity to review their course requests. If students need to make a change in their course requests, they can email their counselor with the change. After that, students’ course requests will be locked in and no further changes will be allowed.
Now is the time to consult with your child’s current teachers about the courses they might recommend for your student.

ROCK THE LAKE
Tickets Go On Sale Feb 19th!
ROCK THE LAKE is back with the Velcro Pygmies on March 7th!
ROCK THE LAKE is a student-run production conducted in partnership with the Reach and Teach Program. Reach and Teach offers a unique project-based learning opportunity where students promote an actual concert on their school campus. Many different artists around the country participate in this program and partner with schools to provide this hands-on experience to their students. The Velcro Pygmies partnered with the LAKE in 2019 for the first-ever ROCK THE LAKE production, and we are very excited to host them again this year.
ROCK THE LAKE will immediately follow our annual Daisy Day activities for all students who have purchased concert tickets. Students who have not purchased tickets will return to class for an extended Advisory period.
Due to safety and space limitations, no outside visitors will be allowed to attend the concert. This is a CLHS STUDENT-ONLY event. Tickets will go on sale online Monday, February, 19th through the GoFan website. Students may only purchase one ticket for themselves. Once purchased, students will present their student ID and ticket barcode on Daisy Day to pick up their wristband for concert entry. Students must verify their student ID to purchase their ticket online, and students who have not been in attendance at school at least 90% will NOT be allowed to purchase tickets.

SAT - Current Juniors
Clear Creek ISD will administer the SAT® School Day to current Juniors on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, free of cost on campus at 7:20 am. The test administration will be completed by 12:45 pm. All juniors are registered and signed up to take the test. Parents and students are not required to do anything on their end. March 20th will be a regular learning day for the rest of the students.
The SAT® School Day is an admissions test accepted by U.S. colleges that drives equity and fosters the college aspirations of all students. The SAT® School Day is the same SAT® many students take on a Saturday.
State funding will pay for all current Juniors to take the SAT® during the school day in the spring of their junior year, including those that have previously taken the SAT®.
Students must bring their fully charged laptops and charger on testing day.
Preparing for the SAT®
The SAT is now administered digitally. While the transition to digital brings several student and educator-friendly changes, many important features of the SAT and PSAT-related assessments have stayed the same. If you took the digital PSAT/NMSQT® in October 2023, you already know what to expect. You can also learn more at Digital SAT – SAT Suite | College Board
SAT Student Guide - https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/sat-student-guide.pdf
The SAT® is the only college entrance exam that comes with a free, personalized practice program for every student. The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy® to provide free SAT® online practice, available at: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice
The customized test preparation will offer skill-based videos and practice SAT® questions to support students who have taken the PSAT®/NMSQT®. (Juniors who were enrolled in CCISD during the Fall of 2023 were administered the PSAT®/NMSQT®.) Students can connect their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get free personalized learning plans based on test performance. Research shows that students who spend 20 hours on Official SAT Practice gain an average of 115 points from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT.
Taking the Test
There are only a few items you must bring on test day, and many items you’ll be better off leaving at home. For more information on what to bring, including approved calculators, visit: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/taking-the-test/test-day-checklist
If you need additional information, please email our Dean of Instruction, Veena Dass at vdass@ccisd.net or our Campus testing coordinator Ms. Jennifer Barbee at jbarbee@ccisd.net

Anonymous Alerts
CCISD continues to implement and improve upon our anonymous system for reporting safety concerns. These concerns can include safety violations on campus, threats, harassment, bullying and self-harm. Because Clear Lake High School's safety is dependent upon every member of our community, if you see or hear of something that concerns you, we ask you to tell a trusted adult so they can report it or submit your concern using the Anonymous Alert system.
When submitting concerns, please make sure that you report all information (names, descriptions, location, time, etc.) to help with a quick response. We investigate every tip submitted.
For expeditious reporting, we ask that parents and students load the app on your phones (QR codes below). Reports can be made anonymously by using the blue button link below. QR codes for reporting are also posted year-round on the rotating announcement TVs in the hallways on campus.
