Dear Leeds Elementary Families and Friends,
As I have said before, November is one of my favorite months of the year. The fall activities, colors, and crisp air are the open act to the amazing season that is upon us! This time of year, we generally start to focus even more on our families, friends and all the things we are grateful for. We have so much to be thankful for everyday at Leeds Elementary School with amazing students, families, staff, and community! All stakeholders play a very important role in helping us with creating our vision and reaching our goals each year.
REMINDERS:
- Now is a great time to get out those winter coats and warm clothing to ensure the students are safe and warm as we move into the colder months.
- If your child needs a coat, mittens, hats, or shoes, please contact the office and we will do our best to find them what they need.
- We have our first music concerts coming right around the corner on November 10th for 2nd and 4th grades. (1st and 3rd grades will be December 8th, and Kindergarten and 5th will be March 22nd)
- We will be sending notices home in the Thursday folders the week prior to the concerts for each of the grade levels.
- We will also be asking that any family intending to take their student(s) home with them after the concert to please notify their classroom teacher by phone or email 24 hours prior to the concerts if possible. They will be making a list of students leaving early, so they can have their things ready and with them after the concert to avoid any chaos or confusion.
- Once again, we will have tables with "visitors" information stickers on them that we will ask you to sign and wear into the concert that afternoon.

Hello Future Stars Families!
We are about a quarter of the way through our school year already! It just doesn't seem possible! In the first quarter, we learned about our Thoughtful Turtles and Protective Porcupines, celebrated Red Ribbon Week, and began small groups for some of our students.
Soon, I get to go back into classrooms and teach about the differences in tattling and getting help to our kindergarten through second grade students and conflict resolution to our third through fifth graders. Hopefully, your student will come home ready to tell you about the tattle snake and get help goat or the sweet steps of the conflict resolution pineapple!
As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us! We have so much fun here at Leeds!
Mrs. Roskilly

Dressing for Cooler Weather
With the cooler temperatures upon us, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the colder winter. Even during the winter season, the District allows recess and outdoor activities to continue as usual, so it is important that students have the right winter weather clothing. When the temperature feels like 15 degrees or lower, students are kept inside for recess and activities. Students should be prepared for the cooler weather with a warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. If your student does not have access to cold weather apparel, please contact our school office.
Inclement Weather Reminder
Please remember that parents and guardians have the right to make the decision to keep their child home on any day they feel it is unsafe for their student to be in school because of weather conditions. If you believe the weather provides a sincere reason why you may have to keep your student at home, or take your student home when classes are scheduled to continue, you as a parent or guardian will simply need to contact our school office to let us know.
MySchoolBucks Program Fee
Families using MySchoolBucks may notice a Fall 2023 Program Fee of $2.50 on their next transaction. The fee will only be charged in connection with the first payment made during November and December 2023. MySchoolBucks is charging the fee to help offset increased costs related security and privacy on its platform.
If you have any questions about the program fee, please contact MySchoolBucks directly at 1-855-832-5226.
Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
