The Valley Byliner Board Members met on July 11, 2020, on ZOOM.

Attending were James Arnold, President; Joy Arnold, Secretary; Ana Cavazos, VP of Public Relations; Katelynn Renteria, Treasurer; Michael McGarry, Member; Janice Workman, Board Member, Delma Rodriguez, Board Member; Frank Cortazo, Past President.

President, James Arnold, called the meeting to order.

I. Zoom meetings. Byliners and Poetry Night will hold meetings on ZOOM
for the time being. After we begin meeting in person again, we may use
it when beneficial to the group. An example: ZOOM may be used to
share Byliners programs digitally.

II. Contests and Workshops

-A. Writing Challenge contest is to be held via internet during this time that the

group cannot meet in person. Prizes could be mailed to winners. Katelynn

advised that ZOOM polls could be used to facilitate voting.
-B. Critique Workshops online.

-----1. Volunteers to hold workshops. These could be lecture/interactive workshops
conducted by members or others. Also, members could volunteer stories to be
critiqued by the group. Members need to know that by volunteering, they’re
getting their names out there, thus adding to their credibility as authors. Ideas
for Annual Workshop. Tabled until we have more information.

-C. Writing exercises, strategies, etc. Delma Rodriguez suggested that
she has a collection of writing exercises, icebreakers, etc. The club
could pool these and others to be used on occasion.

III. Valley Byliners Board Member Vacant Positions

-A. VP of Programs is still vacant. We are seeking to fill this position.

IV. Manager of Organization Anthologies. Find a Valley Byliners member to be in charge of
holding on to the copies of the Byliners anthologies. We are seeking to fill this position.

-A. Anthologies:

-----1. Rio Grande book: 40 copies left

-----2. Tales told at Midnight: 5 Copies Left.

We discussed possibly republishing previously published anthologies and/or creating new Byliners anthologies for future publication.

V. Valley Byliners Website. Ana Cavazos and Katelynn Renteria have been converting the
previous website to a new WIX website that will facilitate management ease and
flexibility to better serve the membership. Ana will be providing information on the link to
be shared and membership log in. Members will be able to post and maintain individual
blogs on the new website.

VI. Purchase of Collectibles from eBay and Amazon for Valley Byliners files. Ana has
current purchasing information. The Board is to vote on purchasing a copy of each.

VII. Book Exchange. Tabled until the next meeting.

We are a writer’s group located in Harlingen, Texas. Our mission is to encourage and support the Rio Grande Valley writing community through workshops, lectures, writing competitions and other programs. We meet on the second Saturday of each month 1:30 p.m. in the Harlingen Public Library. Visitors are always welcome.
