Bomber News
2024 September Edition
Message from Principal Rowell
Please encourage your child to remain organized and on top of their daily assignments, and to reach out for help as soon as necessary. One way is to keep a planner with assignment due dates and also to use study hall time wisely to complete homework assignments or prepare for upcoming quizzes and tests.
Our newsletter will be used to keep families updated about timely information and a place to celebrate the accomplishments of our students in all areas of their school experience; academic, activities and athletics.
Feel free to reach out to teachers, our school counselors, activities/athletic director or myself if we can be of any assistance to you and your child(ren). We look forward to partnering with you in your child’s educational journey.

ECCP and START COLLEGE NOW COURSES
ECCP - Early College Credit Program
The Board will allow any high school student who satisfies the eligibility requirements to participate in the Early College Credit Program (ECCP) to enroll in an approved course at an EECP-approved institution of higher education while attending in the District. Any public high school pupil who is not attending a technical college under s.38.12(14) is eligible to participate in ECCP. Students will be eligible to receive college and high school credit for completing course(s) at authorized institutions of higher education provided they complete the course(s) and receive a passing grade.
The School District’s responsibility to pay for tuition, fees, books, and other necessary materials shall be limited to a maximum of eighteen (18) postsecondary credits per student. All additional credits shall be paid by the parent.
A student or his/her parent must also complete and submit the Intent To Participate Form available from the Student Services Office or the Department of Public Instruction to the high school administration by February 1 for summer session attendance; by March 1 for fall semester attendance; or by October 1 for spring semester attendance.
SCN - Start College Now
“Start College Now” provides greater learning opportunities for qualified high school juniors and seniors. This program is offered through Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) and is an option for students who wish to begin college early or want to prepare to enter the workforce immediately after high school graduation.
Students looking to take courses must turn in the application by March 1 for fall semester courses and October 1 for spring semester courses. A separate form should be submitted for each semester. Visit the LTC “Start College Now” website to view eligibility requirements, class choices and more information.
Additional information is also listed in the HS handbook on p.29 and 30.
EXAM EXEMPTION
HS Students only
Attendance, grades and courses are the three factors that play into an exam exemption. Families are encouraged to review the exam exemption request form that provides clarity around these criteria.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR SPOTLIGHT
Welcome Heather Winter
Heather Winter is thrilled to be welcomed into this wonderful team at Kohler Middle and High Schools! A graduate of New Holstein High School, Heather holds a Musical Theater Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rockford University.
Her career with kids in the arts includes creating theatre camps for Summerville YMCA in South Carolina, and Northern Lights Playhouse in northern Wisconsin. She was an actor/educator with CLIMB theatre in Minneapolis, touring schools in a five state area and teaching social skills to grades K-12 via theatrical games and facilitated role play. Most recently, she has shared the helm with a wonderful set of friends at Kiel Area Youth Theatre for many years, directing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and co-directing Annie Jr. as well as working on the board, box office, and costuming crews.
Special thanks to Ms. Stokes and all the parent volunteers who make these opportunities for our students not only possible, but exceptional!
OPEN CAMPUS - LUNCH
Just a reminder that students in grade 9-12 have an open campus for lunch. This means that students can leave campus during their lunch time from 11:30-12:00pm. When off campus, students are no longer under the supervision of the school or school staff.
Students will be able to enter the building at noon, which is the passing time after lunch. If students return from lunch earlier, they will be able to wait in the vestibule area.
TRANSCRIPTS
We are excited to share that families will have access to view their child’s unofficial transcript that indicates class and percentile rank; for students in grades 10-12. This is particularly important as it relates to seniors who are applying to college and juniors who may be interested in Wisconsin Guarantee.
This feature will be available as of Friday, September 20. Families can view their child's unofficial transcript by clicking on Portfolio and then Attachments. This is the same place where families can view and print their child's repot card. On the transcript you will notice a weighted and unweighted GPA. We have been notified that for WI Guarantee, UW Madison will use the weighted GPA to identify students in the top 5% of their graduating class, to eliminate duplicate rankings.
What is the Wisconsin Guarantee? This is specific to current juniors. If your child is in the top 5% of their class, at the end of their junior year they would qualify for the Wisconsin Guarantee; guaranteed admission to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A link for additional information is included here.
WORK PERMITS
The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool that is available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device.
A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, a paper copy of the permit will be directly mailed to the employer.
Athletics and Activities "SKOOP" from Mr. Sprenger
Fall Sports in Full Swing
All of our Blue Bomber sports and activities are back and in full swing. I have had the opportunity to view all of the fall sports in person so far, and as always I have been very impressed with our student-athletes and what they accomplish in practices and games. They go out each and every night and give it their all. I have also been impressed with their sportsmanship this season. Whether they win or lose, their heads always remain high and they are always reflective and speak about ways they can improve for the next game. I also want to thank all of the fall coaches and advisors. All of our coaches put in a lot of hours, late nights, and work during the weekends. That work does not go unnoticed and we are appreciative of all the time and effort our coaches put in for our student-athletes.
Sports Season Updates
KLC Football
I look forward to seeing what they can do the rest of the season, and I have no doubt they will continue to battle hard each and every game!
Cross Country
The boys and girls cross country season is off to a great start! The boys team recently finished in 2nd place, and the girls team finished in 3rd place in a tough Kiel invite. The boys are currently ranked 6th in the state in D2, and the girls are ranked 4th in the state in D3. They have about a month left of competition before the post season and it will be fun to watch what this team can do once again this year.
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team is off to one of their best starts to the season in a long time. The team is currently 4-1-1 and continues to play as a team each and every week. On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, one of the most special moments of the fall sports season took place. The information regarding that special event is below.
On Tuesday September 10th, there was a Kohler High School Boys Soccer game between the Blue Bombers and Central Wisconsin Christian. The night ended up with a Blue Bomber 7-1 victory, but what happened during halftime was a truly magical moment for everyone in attendance.
Moments like this showed that sports and life are not just about the wins and losses. We were able to take a moment as a community to celebrate Zack Morehouse's "wish" come true.
Thank you to the Central Wisconsin Christian soccer team and community members for their kindness and great sportsmanship and allowing us to take an extended halftime; thanks to the Make A Wish Foundation for making this happen; and thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate this special moment. Please read the write-up below regarding this special night.
From the Kohler Villager:
The Make-a-Wish Foundation delivered an unforgettable surprise to Kohler teen Zack Morehouse: a chance to meet Lionel Messi, the legendary Argentine soccer player often hailed as one of the greatest of all time. Zack’s wish was revealed during halftime of the Kohler boys' varsity soccer game on September 10 by members of the second and third grade Kohler girls soccer team.
Zack has muscular dystrophy, and his neurologist nominated him for a wish five years ago, according to his mother, Kristin. Originally, Zack's wish was to travel to Spain to meet Messi, but the Covid-19 pandemic thwarted those plans. Zack then chose a trip to Hawaii as a new wish. However, as the family was awaiting their flight out of Chicago O’Hare Airport, flights were once again canceled. Kristin said Zack probably felt like the wish was never going to happen. The family did eventually take a trip to Hawaii, but Zack’s original wish remained unfulfilled.
After learning that Messi had moved to Miami last year, Zack asked if he could return to his original wish. (His Plan B wish was to be an archaeologist for a day). Zack was between 10 and 11 years old when he made his wish. He is currently 15, and while age 14 is the cut-off for wishes, the Make-a-Wish Foundation made an exception for Zack.
Though Zack is unable to play much soccer, he is on the Kohler boys’ soccer team, which Kristin said is incredibly supportive of him participating in the sport he loves.
KLF Swim and Dive
The KLF swim and dive team is off to an amazing start this year. The team keeps growing every single meet, and continues to break personal records, and pool records. Most recently at a meet in Ashwaubenon, Brook Arnoldi finished 4th and Emily Loest finished 7th.
The swim team finished in 5th as a whole and the following made the podium! 200 medley relay 2nd (Nora Williams, Meghan Spence, Annie Devine, Claire Brotz), 200 free 3rd (Nora), 100 fly 6th and 2nd (Claire and Annie), 100 free 8th (Abbey Janssen), 500 free 3rd (Nora), 200 free relay 3rd (Meghan, Abbey, Claire. Annie), 400 free relay 4th (Nora, Claire, Abbey, Annie. It is going to be fun to watch what this team can do moving forward!
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team is off to a really strong start to the season. The team always schedules tough competition throughout the season, but despite playing some of the best competition in the state they continue to do well. The team is currently tied for 4th in the conference, and recently had big wins over Edgewood, Brown Deer and Lourdes at their home meet. The team has about three more weeks of play left before they start their post-season. Best of luck to the team the rest of the way!
Girls Volleyball
The girls volleyball team is always a fun team to watch play. The group is always a resilient group that plays hard in one of the toughest volleyball conferences in the state. The team always has great sportsmanship, and looks for the positives in each meet that they play in. They also continue to get better and grow as a team as the season goes on. Their next home meet is on October 1st when they face Hilbert, which should be a great match!
