YEARBOOK DESIGN CONTEST!!
Students (& Staff) in Action!
Celebrations
During the month of November, our board recognized the Washington County Sheriff's Department, and specifically the Deputy Sheriffs who work with us regularly as part of our Safety Committee, drills, and assessment protocols. We thank them for their collaborative community relationship, supporting the safety and well-being of our district students and staff, and for swiftly responding to district needs.
Student Salutes
Spotlight on Learning
Several of our team members reported to the board and those in attendance about our journey with the Teachers College Reading & Writing Project Curriculum. This team reviewed the training they have received, their "why," the research that brought us to Teachers College,
Why:
“Our hope is that this path brings children along to the place where they can write clearly and skillfully and read flexibly and joyfully - and can live together as caring, thoughtful readers and writers.”
Research:
"Over decades of research (1977, 2002), Richard Allington has returned often to the three key conditions readers need to thrive: 1. time to read, 2. access to books they find fascinating, and 3. expert instruction." ~Lucy Calkins,
Student Engagement:
With this curriculum, reading and writing units are taught in tandem and relate well to one another. For example, the lessons taught from mentor texts in reading sessions can be easily transferred to the students writing pieces. Students are constantly engaged throughout all of the lessons and learn real-life skills such as goal setting, collaborating with peers, and discussing opinions and ideas.
Lockdown (& Reunification) Drill
Later this month, we will have our first safety drill of the year. Based on last year’s feedback from both the law enforcement and safety personnel we work with, our Parent Sounding Board, and staff, we will continue to practice the “Lockdown Drill” districtwide, but will add a “Reunification” component for our Richfield Middle School families. This is another step in our evolution of practicing a variety of ways to keep our students and staff safe and prepared for potential hazards.
FLES
On December 14, we will host our first lockdown drill at FLES in the afternoon. Students and staff will follow the guidelines they have been taught.
RMS
Following this lockdown drill, our safety personnel, administration, and safety committee members will head to Richfield Middle School for the lockdown simulation leading into reunification.
In this situation, students will be expected to do the following: clear the halls and lock down quickly, follow an announcement to gather their belongings for home, and upon dismissal by grade level, head to the bus loading zone. From there, students will be taken to one of our reunification sites. In this case, we have coordinated with Pioneer Bowl. Once at Pioneer Bowl, students who typically ride the bus home at the end of the day, will board their appropriate bus which will transport them to FLES in time for end-of-day dismissal.
RMS Pick-Up at Pioneer Bowl
(for parents who typically pick-up their kids at the end of the day)
Parent pick-up will occur at Pioneer Bowl for our RMS students on December 14, 2021. We are asking parents to follow the directions they receive upon getting to Pioneer Bowl so that we can simulate, at a small scale, what reunification would look like if ever there was a need. We will be using the necessary reunification paperwork for parent pick-up (attached). If you complete this ahead of time, you can turn it in when you get to Pioneer Bowl. Please bring a photo ID with you for the reunification process. While we may know many parents by sight, the reunification process is accountability driven, and this helps practice that aspect. In an emergency, we want the right kids going with the right parents. If you forget the paperwork, you can complete it on-site in a few extra minutes. Following the drills, we will be sending out an email to share our findings. This email will include a survey as we would like to gauge your feedback as well.
Skylert (Districtwide)
During these drills we will be deploying a Skylert message. Skylert is an automated message system used by the Holy Hill Area School District to generate a phone call, email, and SMS (text) message using the contact information in Skyward. Updating Skylert information was a step in the annual registration process for your child(ren). If you need to add or update the email or home phone numbers for your family, please reach out to your child’s school. Cell phone numbers only, can be updated directly by the user by logging into Family Access and choosing the Skylert tab on the left and updating the text message field. At FLES, the message that will be sent will include a statement similar to the following: “This is a test message for the Lockdown Drill being performed at Friess Lake Elementary School.” At RMS, the message that will be sent will include a statement similar to the following: “This is a test message for the Safety Drills occurring at Richfield Middle School. This is a reminder that parent pick-up will be held at Pioneer Bowl today.” Because of the reverse order for buses, drop-off times may be altered this afternoon. Please be aware that your child may be dropped off slightly earlier or later.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Yours in Education,
Tara

Our On Site Clinical Mental Health Partnership is Changing Their Name
The Holy Hill Area School District is committed to supporting our students and families through continued partnership with Saint A’s, Inc. Beginning January 1, 2022, Saint A’s will change its name to Wellpoint Care Network. After 171 years of caring for the children and families of Wisconsin, they have decided it was time for a change. Their mission, values, service array and talented workforce are staying the same. This new name captures what they have been doing successfully for years-creating wellness. Our District is excited to have continued partnership with them and look forward to promoting wellness within our community with their support.
