Dear Students and Families,

It's hard to believe that July is only a few days away! Yet, summer is in full swing.

This will be the last newsletter that our senior families receive. One more round of congratulations to the OWLs, Class of 2024. As I look back at the past year, we have been through so many ups and downs, but we kept going. In the face of so much uncertainty, WE kept going!

This week, the NC House of Representative and NC Senate voted to approve House Bill 900. This Bill includes language that allows WYWLA (and WYMLA) to keep our status as a Cooperative Innovative High School in North Carolina. This means we remain identified as an Early College! We remain excited for our future as we look for our next partner!

This brief newsletter includes just a few notes. Please take a second to cruise through and catch up on the nest!

For all those moving to new spaces, we wish you the very best. For our returning OWLs, we look forward to seeing you in August.

As your OWL is preparing for new horizons, we hope you have taken a moment to celebrate this major celebration and milestone. You are an amazing parent and our OWLS are who they are because of you. Thank you for all that you have given to our community and for the ways we hope you will continue to celebrate our school.

With House Bill 900, we will be able to align our calendar with other Early Colleges and Wake Technical Community College, our college partner for the 2024-2025 school year.

The School Board will officially vote on this calendar during the July 16, 2024, Board Meeting. However, you mind find it helpful to have this information earlier. You can view the proposed calendar for the 2024-2025 school year by clicking the link below:

Is your OWL doing something cool over the summer? We would love to feature her in our news and social media! Email Mrs. Walker a picture and brief summary so that we can highlight the cool things our OWLs are doing this summer! It could be work, volunteer, travel, reading, fun... the possibilities are infinite! Contact: mwalker4@wcpss.net

I will be leading a 50 minute workshop on July 24 and July 25 on success of female students! I'm look for 5-7 OWLs to help me! Students can be grades 6-12 (including recent graduates). Email Mrs. Walker for more details (mwalker4@wcpss.net).

Just as our seniors and students are off to brave new beginnings, we have several staff who are off to new beginnings as well. Join me in a warm farewell and congratulations to these staff.
