Week 31
Our Quarter 3 report cards were mailed mid week, so you can expect them by USPS in the coming days! As always, please direct any questions about grades to individual teachers and reach out to me if you have any questions about the structure or make up of the report cards as a whole.
I received absolutely wonderful feedback about the Talent show last night! Thanks to all of the 8th grade parents and faculty who helped make it possible! It was truly a wonderful way to see students come together, be risk takers and have courage which are key attributes in our learner profile!
Lastly, spring sports are in full swing! We had our first competitions this week! Please show up to cheer on our student athletes when you are able. A special thanks to all of you who are taking on a coaching role this spring, we are truly grateful!
As you all know, next week is Spring break! We will see your student back at school on Monday April 28th! Thank you for your continued partnership and have a great week.
Best,
Michaela

From The MYP Coordinators
Our 6th graders traveled to Middlebury College for the ACSD Youth Citizen Summit on Friday, March 21. Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of workshops focused on the theme of "taking action." Our keynote speakers included environmentalist Bill McKibben and Special Olympics and Best Buddies ambassador Lucy Meyers. Students took workshops planned by MUHS students and community volunteers and ended the day with a performance and sing-along with local musician, Clint Bierman! Envisioned several years ago by our math teacher, Bethany Morrissey, the program was on hiatus for a few years. We’re so excited to welcome it back. This was an inspiring day filled with valuable insights and opportunities to make a difference!
Thanks so much to Mrs. Morrissey for organizing this special day, and to all of the student leaders at MUHS who led workshops for students.

Welcome to MUMS!
Michelle Steele, Curriculum Coordinator
Michelle has been teaching World Languages to Middle and High School students since 2008. Currently certified in French and Spanish, she studied French and German at the University of Vermont, and then earned her Masters in Teaching French at the School for International Training. Inspired by her French Canadian heritage, Michelle has always had a passion for travel, languages and cultures, and enjoys sharing these passions with her students. In her free time, she also loves enjoying the Vermont outdoors with her family and playing and coaching ultimate frisbee!
Most recently she taught MYP and DP French at Middlebury Union High School. With experience in many languages and many different communities around the world, Michelle is passionate about sharing languages and cultures with her students. Her recent research in Morocco with the Fulbright DAT program has also renewed her focus on de-centering Europe from instructional curricula.. Michelle loves engaging students with diverse, compelling material that addresses the most pressing global issues of our time. She is thrilled to be joining the MUMS team next year, and to share her experiences designing and implementing curriculum with proficiency based learning.
Andria Luce, Instructional Specialist-Literacy
I have had the privilege of being an English teacher, mentor, and Instructional Coach with diverse groups of educators and students for the last 25 years. I would like the teachers and students at Middlebury Union Middle School to feel as supported as I have in my teaching career. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to collaborate with my MUMS team to design thoughtful, evidence-based curriculum while supporting teachers and students with instructional strategies, coaching and professional development in order to increase literacy skills. My two kids are grown and have careers of their own now. I love fishing, camping, art, live music and reading. I will be moving to the area with my two-year-old lab, June Carter Cash. I am very much looking forward to meeting all of you and being a part of this beautiful community!

Student Attendance (absences/dismissals) and Bus Notes
- To report your child absent from school or notify us of an early dismissal please leave us a message on our attendance line by calling 382-1297 before 8:30 AM.
- If you send a student to school with an early dismissal note or bus note they should bring them the office before TA.
- All students taking a bus to another place other than home need a bus note from their caregiver. This note needs to be stamped/signed by one of our Administrative Assistant's in the front office. Students will not be allowed to ride a bus to another location without a note from home that is stamped/signed by the office.
