Principal's Message
Dear Parents
I would like to encourage you to give to SCMS’ CAPITAL CAMPAIGN. I know there are so many things that require our personal resources; however, we depend on you to provide those things that state and local monies cannot. We cannot provide for your students what we (technology software programs, library catalogue updates, teacher resources, library maker spaces, and much more) without your support. For some schools who are considered Title l, there are more Federal Dollars allotted to those schools. We are not a Title l school. We truly depend on donations from our community. Also, if your company would like to be a sponsor, we have many ways that your brand can be seen by over 1400 people each week, that’s 1400 impressions in the market each week for pennies. Also, if you would like to see what the Capital Campaign has bought in the past, please reach out to me and I will look forward to meeting with you and presenting or showing you the positive results of SCMS’ CAPITAL CAMPAIGN.
If you would like to donate, please visit the SCMS PTO website: www.scmspto.org.
I have been so proud of our students. Our student council and our Animal Care Club have been collecting items for families and animals that have been affected by the recent hurricanes. To see a giving/serving spirit and effort by our students is so exciting and humbling. Thank you to the families who have given. We had a moment of silence this week for the families and focused on being grateful for what we have. On Friday, I encouraged all students and teachers to wear purple, teal, or South Charlotte gear. It was TEAM day at South Charlotte on Friday. We wanted to join in solidarity as a team and also create excitement for the week ahead.
I would like to congratulate our fall Sports Teams. Our football team had a great win at Southwest Middle School this week and our SOFTBALL and VOLLEYBALL teams continue to have winning records. Golf had wins and all club sports are doing well. Thank you to all of our coaches who work tirelessly for our student-athletes.
We hope our TEAM day created excitement and will serve as a great springboard into this week as the teams are at home for games throughout the week. We encourage you and your students to support our teams and attend the games. Dates and times for games are included in this edition of the SHOCKWAVE. Parents of athletes, thank you so much for what you do to support your student-athletes.
Tomorrow your students will bring home a very important document. It is the South Charlotte Emergency Contact form. It is our desire that we never have to use it for your student; however, we have had more emergency type situations this year than ever before. To that end, we want to ensure we have as much information available as possible. Please fill out the form and return it as soon as possible. This will enable us to care for your students at the highest level should there be an emergency situation. I appreciate you doing this, and understanding the reason the school needs to have access to such information.
Have a great weekend. Thank you for allowing us to serve your student (s).

Ms. Pavese's AE had a guest speaker this week to talk to student about Greece and it's culture.
Mr. King- Robotics
In Engineering and Robotics AE, the students learned about old time, metric, and standard measurements. They then use exact measuring to build skimmer cars using either metric or standard. They then tested their skimmers in the hallway and made adjustments to weight and any possible drag. So far, just about 80 ft is the current longest distance

Agenda Tips!
School agendas are an easy tool that all students can use to manage the information they receive in a day. Middle schoolers should be using their agendas to help them manage their time, stay organized, and reduce stress. Studies show writing in an agenda improves memory and student success. By writing down homework as it’s assigned, planning study time, and not forgetting about upcoming tests or assignments, students receive better grades. All students were given agendas at the beginning of the year, and should be using them daily to stay organized.
October is national bullying prevention month. National Bullying Prevention Month is a wonderful opportunity to prevent bullying by encouraging everyone to act with kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Bullying impacts the education, health, and safety of K-12 students. Empowering students and parents to report bullying is a critical step in creating a safe and inclusive environment. If you have any concerns or witness bullying, we encourage you to report it promptly. All students were trained how to use Say Something to anonymously report concerns.
