Message from Principal Jackson
Welcome back! It was great to see all of our students return this week. On behalf of the faculty and staff, Happy New Year to you and your family. We hope everyone had a great winter break.
We had a very busy month of December at Miner. Our K-5th grade students finished their Attendance Wars competition to see which grade level has the best on-time arrival and daily attendance for the month of December. Our 5th graders won the competition this year and received their celebration on this past Friday.
In addition, we are excited that Miner is able to offer Girls Basketball this year in addition to our Boy's team! Both of our teams are currently working hard at practice under the leadership of Coach Stoyle for the girls team and Coach Gee for the boys team. Schedules will be posted on the school website. Please come out and support our student-athletes.
Our partners at DC Scores and members of the DC United team came out to celebrate the holiday season with our DC Scores soccer team before winter break. It is great to have awesome partners that love and celebrate our students regularly.
Our music teacher, Mr. Chubb, also wrapping up auditions for our first Spring theater production of Annie Jr. He and the staff are working extremely hard to plan and put on a great performance later this spring for all of our students and families.
We also conducted our first term term awards assembley for our K-5th grade students and many of our ECE classes held their celbrations of learning! That, along with our Winter Spirit Week have lead to a busy week filled with celebrations and community building.
January is shaping up to be just as busy! As a reminder, on January 17th there will be no school for students because we will be hosting Parent Teacher Conference Day! Please come out and meet with your child's teacher in order to check on their progress at school.
Please join us for the PTO meeting on Tuesday Jan. 7th at 6:00pm and the ECE Parent Committee Meeting on January 9th at 8:45am. I hope to see you all there.
Respectfully,
Principal Jackson
