The Next Couple Weeks

Can you believe that we are just two weeks away from Christmas Break?!?! If you are keeping track on your calendar (and I hope that you are), you know that the next two weeks are very busy at school with special events and happenings and most likely very busy for families outside of school. I encourage you to keep daily schedules as close to normal as possible and be mindful in your planning in order to stimulate minds and keep children engaged through the fun. Also, please watch for students who might be struggling during the holidays and remember that holidays aren't always the happiest times for some families. Steady yourself, breathe deep, offer extra patience to our little ones, and enjoy this time.

• Monthly Davison Latchkey site supervisor/program director staff meeting at Central/GSRP will be held tomorrow, Monday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. Please bring your December 11th extended day latchkey sign up sheets.

• As you know, this Wednesday, December 11th is a District Early Release Day. Thank you with your diligence in reminding parents that there will be no p.m. school and extended day latchkey will be offered at Cardinal's Nest, Gates, Hahn, and Hill from early release day dismissal time until 6:00 p.m.

• This Thursday, December 12th is the registration and payment deadline for Cardinal's Nest tuition based preschool and Davison Latchkey session #5 .

• We have all latchkey sub positions filled for the next two weeks with the exception of needing a p.m. sub at Gates from 3:30-6:00 on December 19th and 20th. If you are interested in subbing on these days, please let me know.

• Cardinal's Nest latchkey site Chelsea Maher has resigned and her last day is 12/20/19. We wish Chelsea the best in her new endeavor! Chelsea's position is at the Cardinal's Nest latchkey p.m. school age classroom from 3:15-6:00. If you or anyone you know is interested, all Davison Latchkey caregiver positions are posted on the Davison Schools website and applicants should apply under the GECS link on the web page under the Davison caregiver category. If you need assistance with applying, I will be happy to help.

DCS employee payroll is due this week and the time sheets are ready to be signed. Please be sure to sign in either the Cardinal's Nest office or Early Learning office to the office before 3:00 on Monday.

The Cardinal's Nest preschool students will be decorating gingerbread houses on Monday, December 16th and Tuesday, December 17th. Our Lil' Cardinals and parent volunteers should have a great time while creating a keepsake to take home and share with their families.

Central/GSRP students will be participating in our annual Winter Wonderland on Thursday, December 19th. Two Google documents were sent to teachers last week regarding the Winter Wonderland schedule and supplies needed for this event. Please make sure you respond with your classroom activity and needed supplies. We are looking forward to this special day with students, staff, and parents!

~ Monthly Potluck is Wednesday, December 11th at 12:00-1:00 and the theme is Italian. Sign up sheet is in the staff lounge.

~ Christmas Buddy/Secret Santa staff gift exchange- Monday December 16th through Wednesday the 18th $1-2 gift and Thursday, December 19th a $10 gift for the reveal!

~Winter Wonderland is Thursday, 19th- Make sure to confirm your activity and needed supplies to Carrie and Susan by Monday, December 9th.

~ Wednesday the 18th- Traditional reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' at Central/GSRP Superintendent Brown carrying on the tradition this year at 9:30 and 1:00.

~ Next social committee meeting on Jan 6th @ 3:50 in room 2.

Central/GSRP and Cardinal's Nest District Improvement representatives attended the District's DI meeting last Tuesday, December 3rd. DI Chair, Angie Hards led the meeting and each school building along with our Early Learning sites at Central/GSRP and Cardinal's Nest shared their upcoming plans for this Wednesday, December 11th's early release day. Lindsey Tate and Rachel Meinburg along with Lori Peppin and myself represent Davison's Early Learning program on this committee. On December 11th early release day, preschool staff will be attending PD from 1:00-4:00 at Central/GSRP. We will have a three part PD session including a MDE LARA Licensing Orientation, a 'Building Relationships with students, parents, and colleagues' PD session presented by myself, along with work on our Early Learning school improvement plan focusing on preschool common assessments.

This past week Holly Halabicky sent out a new accident report form. Both the Cardinal's Nest and Early Learning office at Central/GSRP have the new forms available. Just a reminder that when you fill out an accident report for a serious injury or any type of head injury to personally talk to me and/or Carrie Blazen or Emily McKanna in the office. As you know, the concussion document that records the date of the incident must be completed in the student CA-60's for any head injury. The concussion information form must also be sent home for the student. If a serious or head injury happens, I check in with the family during the evening that the accident happened. I appreciate that staff have been diligent with filling out accident reports and just want to bring it to your attention that it is important to share any serious injuries with me on the day that it happens.
