Raiders on the Move
Where are the Atholton Raiders?
Dear Raider Nation,
As you may have learned already this year, on any given week or weekend, students may be involved in a variety of activities here at the school, somewhere in the county, out of state, or even out of the country. This weekend was no exception. I was busy trying to keep tabs on all the cool things going on (and even attending some of them), but here's a recap of some of the awesome activities the Raiders were engaged in:
- Students in the Career Research and Development program participated in the Passport to the Future interviews at HCC. If students get their "passport," they are deemed workforce ready and could qualify for specific jobs in the county.
- The students in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the State conference in Ocean City. Six of our students were competing in events.
- Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed at the County Assessments at Glenelg HS Friday night. I was able to catch the Symphonic Band's performances and they were exceptional. Kudos to director Madeline Swartz and all the students.
- JROTC learned on Friday that their drill team qualified to compete at Nationals in Daytona, then the entire program participated in the annual Military Ball on Saturday Night with the cadets from Howard and Oakland Mills. They will have a busy Spring with various trips to North Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky.
- Becca's Closet held it's annual dress giveaway on Saturday and I was glad I could stop by to see the event. More than 400 dresses were given away to students from around the county and beyond. Our students did an amazing job collecting data to make next year's event even better.
- The Space Raiders robotics team was also in action this weekend competing at an event at Archbishop Spalding HS. I made a quick trip out to catch a round of competition and was so impressed by their enthusiasm, collaboration, and creativity. The team finished 5th and received an award for sustainability.
Truth be told, there was probably more going on with athletics and other activities...it's so tough to see it all or even know all of what's going on. But it's a great to know our students are doing amazing things and representing our school with pride wherever they go.
Hope your students are having a blast in their activities and if they're not involved in anything, let us know so we can get them connected!
Go Raiders!
Sincerely,
Nick Novak
Principal

Stock the Pantry
First, a huge thank you to all the Atholton families who have donated to the new food pantry this year. Your generosity has been instrumental to the success of this new initiative.
That being said, we need your help! Our shelves are empty after our last distribution and we are averaging feeding about 30 families a month. For April, we currently have almost no food to give out. Please consider donating or hosting a food drive for our food pantry. Thanks for the support!

Important Information-Reposting
New Late to School Procedures
We're in our 1st full week of the new late to school procedures and the students are becoming acclimated to the new expectations for scanning in at the front lobby if they arrive after 7:50am. We are able to process students very quickly using the self-service kiosks, but what would make things run even smoother is if we had fewer students arriving late. Please help us reduce student tardiness by ensuring your student arrives at school with enough time to get to class (not just inside the school) by 7:50am. Thanks.
