I am so excited to see each of you soon! We had a busy week getting ready for all staff to return Monday. Some teachers have been on campus getting rooms ready and planning the year as we wrap up big projects. Dr. Grubbs, our new AP, started yesterday, and is eager to meet each of you.
We have seen big changes at West Oxford this summer! Many of you have experienced our beautiful courtyard with the garden, big trees, and the gazebo. We love using that space, but the roots of those gorgeous trees have done extensive damage to the sidewalk and the drainage system. The only way to make the area safe is to remove everything and start fresh. Phase one is almost complete, and the ground will be level and covered in grass seed by Open House. Next year, they will do more work on the drainage system. We know many people have fond memories in this space, but we are excited that it will be safe for all of our students.
I shared with you a few weeks ago that I am working to read more and be on my phone less. I read two good books at the lake the following week, but it's tricky to start new habits at home. I"m still working on finding balance, and I can't wait to hear what you and your families are reading and how you are creating screen free zones that invite you to curl up with a good book. We are going to build those spaces and times here as well. Make sure track your reading for the GCS summer reading program and return your paper on August 12th to win a prize!

Our office will be closed Monday, August 5th as all staff members will be at Granville County School's convocation.
Our open house is August 8th from 4:00-7:00. This is the time to meet your child's teacher, sign up for PTO, learn about buses, register for afterschool, and get ready for the year. Lawrence and Perry and Kona Ice will be on site that evening if you want to pick up dinner or a treat while you are here.
Our PTO is hosting a rummage and vender sale on August 24th from 8:00-12:00. If you are interested in participating, we are charging $25 per parking space. Please reach out to westoxfordelempto@gmail.com. We will set up a special section for venders who are children. We look forward to hosting you.
