Equitable Grading
Implementation Cohort, Spring 2020
Receive Support to Implement a Standards-Based Grading Model
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could grade less while helping students learn more? Wouldn’t it feel great to make grades an even more meaningful form of student feedback? Equitable grading practices can help!
This PD series is for teachers who are intrigued by the idea of standards-based grading, but who would like support in taking the plunge. Over the course of five after-school sessions, participants will discuss various aspects of equitable grading and will develop a complete standards-based grading scheme for one of their courses. Time at each session will be set aside to workshop ideas, giving teachers a chance to hash out the nitty gritty details with colleagues. Teachers will enter the 2020-21 school year ready to run a standards-based classroom!
Curriculum teams are especially encouraged to apply, though teachers are also welcome to participate on their own.
Commitment and Compensation
Upon completion and submission of application work, teachers will be able to timesheet up to 8.5 additional hours. The work to be completed outside of the PD sessions and submitted includes:
- Completed rubrics for at least ten standards (or all course standards if there are fewer than ten).
- A syllabus for the participant's course that explains how s/he will assess students, how student grades will be computed, and the class policy for retakes and missing work.
Session activities will be geared towards supporting completion of these items in order to be prepared to launch a standards-based grading model in fall 2020.
