News&Notes from the Superintendent
~ Dr. Beth Regulbuto
Good Evening SBRSD Families,
“The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.” – B.B. King
Please find below this week’s updates & events happening in our District ~
The Budget & Other School Business
The Town Meeting process is complete, and I am pleased to report that all five towns voted overwhelmingly to support the FY25 Budget. Please know that we immensely appreciate the endorsement from our school community, and we will continue our commitment to be effective and efficient with our resources and to align these resources with student need, while working hard to keep assessments to the towns manageable.
That is a nice transition into some celebratory news for SBRSD! The District was nominated and selected to receive the Donald D. Johnson Operational and Cost Efficiency Award at the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials’ (MASBO) Annual Institute held last week in Falmouth. I accepted the award on behalf of the District which recognizes school Districts for their efforts in developing replicable, cost-efficient approaches that address operational challenges commonly burdening Districts. The award is sponsored by VOYA who provided the District with a plaque as well as a $2500.00 student scholarship award. On June 6th at the School Committee Meeting, MASBO Executive Director, Margaret Driscoll, will do the formal presentation of the award here in District. I am incredibly proud of our team’s hard work and deep belief in the importance of strategic and thoughtful resource allocation, and grateful for the opportunity to be recognized by our colleagues across the state!
As far as next steps at the state level, the Senate will now begin the debate on their version of the budget and any subsequent amendments, with its final budget likely to be completed later this month or in June. The links to Additional Information on the State budget are below:

Student Voice
The Superintendent Student Advisory Councils (SSAC) will have their last meeting of the school year in June. The goal will be to get feedback on this pilot year and use it to improve the SSAC groups for next year! One thing that is certain is that these councils will continue on as the elevation of student voice and choice has been a highlight in my career to date – our students are amazing!
There will also be a check-in on the subcommittees in process – the Courtyard Improvement Committee and the Community Garden Committee to see where they are at and what help they may need to move these teams forward.
A member of our Middle School SSAC asked to do a presentation at the upcoming June 6th School Committee meeting to share an initiative she has been cultivating as a result of her participation in this group. I am really looking forward to hearing all about this student-led passion project, and I am proud of her willingness to inspire others at a public meeting!
Transcend Grant Initiative
As the cohorts for this year wind down, SBRSD’s next steps are to get our Community Team back together in newly formed subcommittees this June, to keep the initiatives moving ahead as the summer months approach!
The good news is that SBRSD is one of two Districts in the rural cohort that will continue working in partnership with Transcend into next year! There will be much more to come soon including information on what the next phase of our journey will be!
More information about this incredible community focused initiative is here at https://www.sbrsd.org/page/transcend-partnership.
