📖💻 FALL ASSESSMENT WINDOW WRAPS UP -- DATA MEETINGS
Kindergarten
5th Grade
We want to share some important updates about your child’s progress in reading and how new state laws are shaping our approach to support their success.
In 2024, Iowa updated HF 2618 to enhance literacy efforts across the state. This law aims to ensure that all students read at grade level by the end of sixth grade. At Southeast Polk, we are implementing these guidelines for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade, focusing on assessment, progress monitoring, and tailored instruction.
We understand how crucial reading is to your child's overall success in school, and we are committed to helping them thrive. Recently, we conducted universal screening assessments called FAST and aReading, along with other diagnostic assessments to better understand each student’s reading level. If your child has been identified as persistently at-risk—meaning they have struggled with reading during two screening periods—you will receive important paperwork that needs to be signed and returned to school.
Rest assured, our dedicated teachers are actively working with students to provide targeted interventions aimed at closing any reading gaps. Your support is essential in this process, and we appreciate your partnership as we work together to help your child succeed.
