Koch's Korner
Future Stars Family and Friends,
November is the time of year that many are focused on family, gratitude, and caring. We have so many things to be grateful for here at Leeds Elementary School. We feel so blessed to have a wonderful, caring, staff of custodians, paraprofessionals, office staff, teachers, and support staff that play an integral part in helping us reach the goals and vision we have set for our school. Also, we are extremely grateful every day for the opportunity to work with the incredible students, families and friends in our Leeds community.
A couple reminders for you:
- Now is a good time to get out those winters coats and warm clothing to ensure the students are safe and warm as we move into those cold winter months.
- If your child is in need of a coat, mittens, or hat, please contact the office and we will do our best to find them what they need.
- We have had some concerns brought to our attention regarding the way the traffic flow is happening before and after school. Please be mindful that you should not stop in the flow of traffic to let students into or out of cars. Please pull to the curb, stop, and let students out of the vehicles or pick the students up on the curbside door of the vehicle.
I sincerely hope this finds all of you healthy and happy as we move into the winter season!

Principal, Leeds Elementary School
Dress Right for Winter
With the cooler temperatures upon us, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the colder winter. Even during the winter season, the District allows recess and outdoor activities to continue as usual, so it is important that students have the right winter weather clothing. When the temperature feels like 15 degrees or lower, students are kept inside for recess and activities. Students should be prepared for the cooler weather with a warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. If your student does not have access to cold weather apparel, please contact our school office.
School Closure Information
Please remember that parents and guardians have the right to make the decision to keep their child home on any day they feel it is unsafe for their student to be in school because of weather conditions. If you believe the weather provides a sincere reason why you may have to keep your student at home, or take your student home when classes are scheduled to continue, you as a parent or guardian will simply need to contact our school office to let us know.
Advocate for Public Education
We are looking for more volunteers to join our District’s Grassroots Advocacy Committee. If you have a passion for supporting public education, consider joining this committee. The Grassroots Advocacy Team is an important resource for the District to disseminate information about important legislative priorities. While you will never be required to attend a meeting, as a volunteer advocate, you will receive email updates about important legislation impacting our school and be asked to contact legislators to advocate on our behalf.
Interested in joining? Please contact the Communications Department at Communications@live.siouxcityschools.com
Need to Connect with Your Student?
You may reach your student during school hours by contacting the school office to leave a message for them. If your student needs to contact you during the school day, they may come to the school office.

Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
