Capone's Early years
Early life. Alphonse Gabriel Capone was born in Brooklyn in New York on January 17, 1899. His parents were Italian immigrants, Terasina and Gabriel Capone. When he was a small boy, he witnessed an older woman whose washboard was stolen. Al put together a small, local, kid gang to beat up all the kids that took the washboard. He returned it to the lady and held a parade to celebrate. When Capone was 14, he slapped one of his teachers. He was expelled from school and never returned.
Capone's Crimes
Capone was responsible for one of the most violent crimes committed in his time, the St. Valentine's Day massacre, where seven men were killed. The men were a part of Capone's longtime enemy, "Bugs" Moran. Moran's men were shot to death by Capone's men who were dressed as policemen. The crime was never linked to Capone because he was in Miami with his girlfriend during the killing spree.

While awaiting the results of appeals, Capone was confined to the Cook County Jail. Upon denial of appeals, he entered the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, serving his sentence there and at Alcatraz he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion and fined 80,000 he spent his last year of his sentence in a prison hospital

His final days
Capone caught a disease from one of his side girls. He contracted a disease called syphilis. On January 25, 1947, Capone died of cardiac arrest after suffering a stroke. He is buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Illinois.
