Mercy Messenger

Issue 25~ Sunday February 23rd, 2025
Through the intercession of Our Lady of Mercy, we commit ourselves to living the Good News of Jesus through Works of Mercy. Our rigorous academic program unleashes creative energy for the pursuit of knowledge and nurtures a hope-filled vision for Catholic leadership. We live out our relationship with God by respecting the dignity of others and providing service to the global community that fosters unity, understanding, and compassion.
Beginning Prayer
Through the merits of this Angel of Youth, grant me the grace which I earnestly seek. Blessed Carlo Acutis, you who made your life a continual renunciation and setting aside of unimportant things, give me the grace to seek heavenly things and despise that which is transient. Amen.
Principal Update
Sunday February 23rd, 2025
Good morning,
This past Friday our middle school went to Mass and afterwards visited the Blessed Carlos Acutis exhibit that is being displayed in the narthex of St. Alphonsus Church. Blessed Carlo Acutis was an Italian teenager known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his skill in using technology to spread the Catholic faith. Born on May 3, 1991, in London and raised in Milan, Carlo had a strong love for the Church from a young age. He was particularly passionate about Eucharistic miracles, creating a website to catalog and share them with the world. Carlo was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 15 and offered his suffering for the Pope and the Church. He passed away on October 12, 2006, and was beatified on October 10, 2020, after a miracle was attributed to his intercession. His body, remarkably preserved, is venerated in Assisi, where he wished to be buried. He is often called the "Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist" for his ability to evangelize through modern technology. His feast day is celebrated on October 12. Many see him as an inspiration for young people and the digital age.
Grades pre-k through 5th will visit this exhibit on Monday. This past week in religion class the students have been spending a lot of time learning about Carlo and the Eucharistic miracles. Thank you to Monsignor Hennessy and St. Alphonsus Parish for inviting our students to share in this wonderful experience. I hope everyone has a great week ahead.
In Mercy,
Bill Delaney
Mini Thon
The fifth grade would like to thank the entire Our Lady of Mercy School community for all you did to make our annual Mini-THON a great success! With your help, we were able to raise $4,465.23 for the Four Diamonds Fund, which helps families facing the battle against pediatric cancer. We greatly appreciate your generous donations and your support of our t-shirt sale and dress down day. A special thank you to all of our parent volunteers who assisted with many different tasks and our Home and School Association for providing pretzels for all students and staff. Thank you, OLM, for your amazing generosity and for helping to make a difference in the lives of those affected by pediatric cancer.

Counselor's Corner
As our 2nd graders learned last week, bullying is hurtful behavior done on purpose that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. This behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. These are some simple tips on how to approach a bullying situation with your child.
• Encourage them to be calm
• Be supportive
• Listen to them without judgment
• Let them know that you are there for them and want to help
• Discuss their ideas on how they want to handle the situation, such as:
Tell the bully to stop
Say nothing or walk away…. Take the bully’s power away.
Tell an adult they trust
Delete social media apps where they have been bullied
Don’t respond to bullying messages online
Spend time with friends that make them feel good
• Make a plan for next steps
• Identify others who may be able to help, such as a teacher, counselor or principal
Bullying often takes place outside the view of adults. In order for students to feel equipped to take action, it is important to empower them as advocates for themselves and others.

Car Line Procedures
Morning Car Line: For everyone's safety please do not park your car and walk your child over in the morning. Please stay in the car line and drop your child off on the sidewalk. Thank you for your cooperation.
To keep our students safe and the car line moving in the afternoon, please:
- Do not get out of your cars. A faculty member will help your child get into the car.
- DO NOT PASS cars in front of you as there may be children getting into their cars on the driver's side. Please be patient and stay in line as you exit the school property, following the car in front of you.
- Do not stop in front of your child. Pull up as far as you can (up to the gym doors) to allow the most cars to load at one time. Please pull right up to the car in front of you.
- Do not speed. The speed limit is 10 MPH while driving on any part of the school property. Please be mindful of your speed.
- Do not use your cell phone while driving in the parking lot.
- WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE PUT A SIGN IN YOUR PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW IDENTIFYING YOUR LAST NAME. This will help us find your child(ren) faster.
- If you need to buckle your child into their car seat, please do so in the circle near the exit of the property.
