We are so excited to welcome you to Black Mountain Middle School. We understand that changing from the elementary school where you spent the last 6 years (or less) is a big transition to middle school. We got you!
We are looking forward to having you be a part of our BMMS Raider Family! If you need something or have a question, reach out and ask.
There is a lot of information in this newsletter that might answer your questions. We had our Information Night called "Bridging" to provide information for parents & guardians last night, 3/13.
Information can also find our school’s website. Visit our YouTube page by searching “Black Mountain Middle School.” There are a lot of great videos to learn about our school’s culture.
In March, the Counselors along with our awesome ASB officers visit our elementary feeder schools to share about BMMS. The student leaders and counselors took the time to answer your questions there too. If more come up, we look forward to answering them for you!
Before school begins in August, we have an orientation for our 6th grade students! We will provide information as the time gets closer. Be sure to check our school's calendar and/or connect on our social media (Instagram @bmms_raiders). Ed-Connect messages will be sent out each week starting in August with updated information; be sure to open the newsletter to get all the information to keep up to date.

Bridging to Black Mountain Parent Night
This is a parent/guardian event for students transitioning from 5th grade to middle school and was held on March 13th. The Bridging to Black Mountain event is intended for parents and guardians of incoming 6th graders and is designed to take the mystery out of Middle School. We feel that the more you and your child know about Middle School, the more positive your experience at Black Mountain will be. Bridging to Black Mountain is an overview of a typical 6th grade schedule, curriculum, teacher expectations; as well as answer any other questions you may have. This night is designed for adults.
A separate orientation for your child from a student perspective will be held in August. Our goal is to build excitement and comfort surrounding your child's attendance at Black Mountain.

STUDENT PLANNER
A “Raider Reminder” (school planner) will be given to each student during registration. This is the student’s school planner for the student to use. The school rules and information about school are included in the “Raider Reminder”.
BMMS Beginnings - 6th Grade Orientation
BMMS Beginnings: An orientation for incoming 6th graders, “BMMS Beginnings” is scheduled in August before the school year starts. Be sure to check the calendar, school's website, and email for information about the date and time. It is an opportunity for students to meet other students and participate in fun activities to help them learn about their new school. ALL incoming 6th grade and new students are encouraged to attend this event.

After School Information
Our After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is held each school day on campus before and after school. Space is limited and registration is required. Thanks to a state-funded grant, this program is provided at no cost to families; however, participation in ASES does involve specific attendance requirements.

Parking Lot Safety - Drop Off and Pick Up
SAFETY! When it comes to our students, safety is our #1 priority. One important way you can help with safety is to help make our parking lot and surrounding streets as safe as possible.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
Drop Off: the closer to 8:00am the more traffic. Wednesdays are Late Start, 9:00am
Make arrangements to pick up your child at the end of school day; ASES by 6pm.
Students are not allowed to be on campus after dismissal, unless in a supervised activity after school (i.e. - ASES program, Power Hour, or Clubs).

More information about in-person Registration will be provided in August including sign-up for registration times. ALL students need to register in August. During registration students will receive their class schedule, pick up textbooks, have picture taken, and purchase p.e. clothes, ASB card, Yearbook, etc.
