A look back on April Events:
Trip Around the World: Diversity Celebration - April 30th
Kudos to Sr. Jay, Diversity Club and all our participating Bayhawk students & teachers for an awesome inaugural "Trip Around the World: Diversity Celebration" . It was wonderful to see our halls filled with the beautiful cultures that make up our school population. We think this event will surely become one of our favorite traditions.
CHS Gives Back on Earth Day - April 22nd
Multiple classes worked on Earth Day focused projects during 4th period on Monday, April 22nd. Math researched the statistics surrounding single use items (like plastic, glass, cardboard). Social Studies and AVID wrote letters to local politicians and the school board about sustainability opportunities (like recycling and using recyclable materials more prevalently) in our school and community as well as other issues they are concerned about. PE and Tech made personalized reusable shopping bags. Art put their creativity to good use and helped begin a community rock garden that we will be sharing with Sandalwood Elementary. Ms. Shires class taught us all about compost! Our creative writing and SPARC students helped create signs for Mental Health Awareness week. AVID 10 helped with Teacher Appreciation week prep and our NHS students performed a Campus Clean up on April 18th. It was so great to see our students working so hard on a common goal to improve and support the community around them.
Check out some photos from CHS Gives Back on Earth Day here:
Quarter 3 Honor Roll & Spring Sports Pep Rally - April 26th
Friday, April 26th was a day to celebrate not only our Spring Sport Athletes but our Quarter 3 Honor Roll Recipients and Student Bayhawks of the Quarter. For Honor Roll, students had a great time connecting with peers, play games outside and were recognized for their academic achievements with a CHS Honor Roll Croc Charm. Later that day, the whole school congregated in the gym to cheer on our Spring Athletes as they transition into playoffs this week. It was nice to celebrate as we entered into the last quarter of the school year.

Abigail E and Amacia R were also spotlighted at the BCPStc Film Showcase. Both are senior interns with @bcpstv and an active part of our Televideo Program. Their creative minds help create segments for CHS’s BNN show daily and various shorts and content for BCPStv! We are so excited that they both plan to continue their education at 4 year schools next year. Amaica will be attending the University of the Arts and Abigail will be attending Towson University! We wish them the best of luck and know they will continue to make CHS proud!
School To Career Students & Employer Annual Breakfast - May 3rd
Each May, our School to Career Program hosts a breakfast to thank our community partners that employ our senior interns and work placement students. We are so blessed to have so many opportunities for our students to gain real world experiences around careers and the world of work. May is Children's Mental Health Month, Wear Green May 7th!
1 in 4 people live with a mental health condition. Use this month as a time to reflect on your progress on your mental health journey and use it as a time to grow and learn new resources and information. This month is also a time to increase awareness and decrease the stigma surrounding mental health. We hope the resources below will help anyone in need. All month long we will be sharing resources on the CHS Hub and our @bayhawkpepsquad Instagram to support mental health and increase awareness about resources available to better support the needs of our students.
Additional Mental Health Supports can also always be found in the Mental Health Resources section farther down in the newsletter.
Descendants The Musical - May 16 & 18
Fall Sport Eligibility is based on Q4 grades!
All students that wish to play a fall sport must have a 2.0 unweighted GPA, with no more than 1 E, on their Quarter 4 report card for the 23/24 school year.
To calculate your GPA for athletic eligibility:
1. Each of your Letter Grades are turned into number values: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E=0
2. Add all of your grade number values together and divide by the number of classes you have.
Example:
Letter Grades - B, C, A, B, D, C, C, C
GPA Calculations - 3+2+4+3+1+2+2+2= 19
19/8=2.375 GPA
*Remember that for Sports, you cannot have 2 E's even if the GPA calculations equal 2.0+
Fall Sport tryouts will be August 14th-17th. More information about registration will be sent out this summer. Students will have to register on FOCUS and have an up to date (expires after 365 days) physical on file if they want to try out. Please reach out to our Athletic Director, Shaun Downey, sdowney2@bcps.org if you have any questions regarding Fall Sports or tryouts.

Need help tracking where your student's bus is?
The Office of Transportation announced county-wide implementation of BusWhere, a location tracking software that allows subscribers to see bus locations in real time on a mobile phone or computer. Via the BusWhere app, subscribers may opt to receive notifications as the bus is approaching a designated bus stop or if there is a significant issue causing a delay.
On or about October 2, 2023, parents/guardians of record in FOCUS should have received an email invitation directly from BusWhere to create an account! If you didn't get that email or have questions or concerns, parents and school-based staff are encouraged to utilize BusWhere Assistance Request Form.
As shared during registration, all BPCS students must meet the same graduation requirements including a completer pathway. A list of graduation requirements is below and this month we are highlighting our School to Career Work-based Learning completer option.
Are you having device issues? Contact the Help Desk!
