A Message from the Principal
Good afternoon,
I can't believe we are at the point in the year to be celebrating with our Seniors! Next week is Senior Week. Be sure to check out the calendar of activities posted later in this newsletter. Along with all of the fun, AP Exams also continue next week. It is important that students arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of the exam. The exam schedule is also posted below.
As we wrap up the school year, it is important that all of our students, especially our seniors, maintain a focus on school work and attendance. Please be sure to check in with your students about missing assignments, exams, tardies and absences. In order to take part in the end of the year events and activities, students need to be in good standing.
Have a wonderful weekend. Happy Mothers' Day!
Take care,
Dr. Sara Delgado

I wanted to make you aware that a concerning TikTok trend known as the #ChromebookChallenge is gaining traction among students, prompting them to intentionally damage school-issued Chromebooks by inserting metal objects into USB ports to cause short circuits and fires. Items like pencil lead, push pins, gum wrappers, and nails are being used, resulting in classrooms filling with smoke and even school evacuations. Although initially reported in Connecticut, videos are rapidly appearing across platforms, indicating a broader spread. We did have several students attempt this last week at North. Please know that if a student takes part in this challenge, discipline will be issued following the Student Code of Conduct.
Additional information can be found in this article.

Counseling Corner
The school year is really flying by right now but there is still so much to do! For our senior parents, please encourage your student to finish strong. Check their schoology grades this weekend and remind them to get their missing assignments and assessments completed as soon as possible. They only have 6 more school days plus 4 days of exams left here at North. We want to see every senior cross the graduation stage and to do that they need to pass their required courses. At the senior class meeting last week, we reminded seniors that a final transcript is required for every college and program that they are attending. The transcript should be consistent - showing that the hard work/grades they earned from 9th - 11th grade is the same as their last semester of high school.
Is your student interested in playing sports in college? Check out the NCAA information page HERE. This site will help you determine how students are officially eligible based on approved core courses, high school GPA, and Division I and II eligibility requirements.
Important Reminders for Seniors:
Check out this list of scholarship sites that you can explore HERE (This is not an exhaustive list). Students should also check Naviance for the scholarship list as well as the Class of 2025 schoology group page.
MI Student Aid Information for families can be found HERE.
Seniors interested in a Skilled Trade, Apprenticeship or Similar Work‐Based Learning Opportunity? Get a jump start with the MAP+ Industrial Readiness Program at Macomb Community College. In just one semester the Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus (MAP+) can get you ready for a skilled trades apprenticeship or career in Advanced Manufacturing or Construction and it’s FREE! Current seniors can apply for the Summer or Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 program. Check out the information sessions coming soon HERE.
Check your email! Remind your seniors to check their email often so they don’t miss updates or action items that need to be completed from colleges.
Stay organized! We suggest keeping a spreadsheet of all the schools and scholarships with deadlines to help stay organized. A template was shared last year but can also be found HERE.
Need help comparing financial aid offers at the different colleges you applied to? Check out this video HERE for more information. This is a great resource to share with your seniors!
Beginning in Fall 2024, Michigan high school seniors and recent graduates are eligible for the Community College Guarantee. Click HERE to read more about this opportunity.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship:
The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is designed to help students pursue their dreams, goals and aspirations in the Mitten State! Graduating high school seniors may be eligible for up to $27,500 over five years in financial aid just by filling out the new and simplified FAFSA.
Those who qualify could receive up to $5,500 if they attend a Michigan public university, private college or university or are enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at a Michigan community college, per year, up to five years
