Multi-Cultural Events at Roslyn Schools
During the last two weeks of March, Roslyn School District hosted a series of multicultural events.
Heights hosted a two-day Cultured Kids celebration, showcasing Argentina, China, Israel, and Puerto Rico.
Harbor Hill Elementary School hosted a multicultural fair on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, showcasing the countries of Japan, Italy, and the Philippines. On Wednesday, March 20th, the school hosted two culturally diverse performances.
East Hills Elementary School hosted two multicultural performances on Friday, March 22, 2024, which included a fashion show, singing, a poem reading, dancing, and a drum performance. The day prior, students participated in a multicultural fair where they had an opportunity to learn about the countries of China, Israel, and Korea.

Roslyn Middle School and Roslyn High School both hosted elaborate multicultural lunches, providing students with the opportunity to try dishes from different cultures. The middle school also hosted a Samba drum performance.

Roslyn Elementary Schools Host Second Grade Concerts
On Friday, March 15, 2024, second-grade students from Harbor Hill Elementary School and East Hills Elementary School sang a wonderful medley of songs for their families during two morning performances.

EAST HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
EAST HILLS CIRCUS SHOW
East Hills Elementary School held a week-long circus skills program from February 26—March 1. The workshops focused on coordination, timing, and team building. Students had a lot of fun learning a variety of clever new tricks like juggling, stilt walking, plate-spinning, and hula-hooping. On Friday, March 1, 2024, fifth-grade students put on a show for the other grades in the school.

NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY AT HARBOR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Harbor Hill Elementary School hosted National Read Across America Day on Monday, March 4, 2024. More than two dozen administrators and staff from across the district participated as guest readers. They visited classrooms to read aloud the book, The Monster Who Lost His Mean, by Tiffany Strelitz Haber.

RMS SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS ANNIE
The Roslyn Middle School Spotlight Drama Club hosted four performances of Annie for the Roslyn community from March 7-10, 2024. The musical Annie is based on a comic from 1924, written by Harold Gray. It tells the story of a cheerful and optimistic 11-year-old orphan girl (played by Helen Zhang) who stays with a billionaire (played by Asher Berkowitz) for two weeks. The show was directed by RMS teacher Julianna DeAngelis, with music direction by RMS teacher Brian Villegas.
RMS STUDENTS ENJOY BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK
Roslyn Middle School students had a great time participating in the library’s first Blind Date with a Book event. During the month of February, students were encouraged to select a wrapped book that had only a few keywords written on the cover to pique their interest. Many students were surprised that they made good choices without seeing the illustration and description on the cover.

Royal Crown Players Perform Anything Goes
Roslyn High School’s Royal Crown Players staged three live performances of Anything Goes—March 21-23—for the Roslyn community. Anything Goes is a classic musical set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American. The story follows the madcap adventures of passengers and crew. As romantic entanglements and mistaken identities unfold, the characters find themselves in hilarious and unexpected situations. Filled with catchy songs by Cole Porter, the musical is a joyful romp through love, laughter, and high-seas hijinks.
RHS STUDENTS EXCEL AT 2024 LISEF
Six Roslyn High School students placed exceptionally well at the final round of the 2023 Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF)—held March 5, 2024, at Crest Hollow Country Club. LISEF is a competition for the most advanced high school projects and allows students to present to professionals in their subject areas from local universities, scientific institutions, and professionals in the field.
RHS STUDENTS PRESENT AT PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE
Four RHS seniors, Alexandra Kanner, Elle Kaplan, Daphne Lin, and Blake Sohmer, presented their research at the annual Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) Conference—held in Philadelphia, PA on March 1-2. Each student submitted long abstracts describing their research and gave poster presentations.
RHS Mock Trial Team Advances to Nassau County Semifinals
On March 26, 2024, the Roslyn High School Mock Trial team beat Massapequa to advance to the semifinals of the Nassau County competition. They will go on to compete in the semifinal round on April 9, 2024.
RHS MARCHING BULLDOGS PERFORM IN WALT DISNEY WORLD
The Roslyn High School Marching Bulldogs had the thrilling opportunity to showcase their talents at Disney World's Imagination Campus Parade, held at Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida from February 17-22, 2024. Under the direction of their music teacher, Frank Mauriello, the students paraded down one of Disney World's renowned routes, enchanting thousands of spectators around Cinderella's Castle.

Roslyn Challenger Basketball Team Hosts First Home Game
The Roslyn Challenger Basketball Team played their first home game against Port Washington on Thursday, March 14, 2024. The game ended in a 48 to 48 tie.
RHS ATHLETE PLACES THIRD IN NYS CHAMPIONSHIP
Junior Zach Davidson placed third in the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships—held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY. Zach cleared 14’9” and established a new Roslyn High School pole vault record!
Roslyn BOE Recognizes Academic and Athletic Achievements
At the March 21, 2024, Roslyn Board of Education meeting, President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy, along with Superintendent Allison Brown and the trustees of the BOE, honored two students for their highly esteemed achievements.
Roslyn High School Principal Dr. Scott Andrews and Dr. Allyson Weseley gave remarks on the achievements of Valedictorian Jacob Gross. He gave brief remarks and was given certificates for earning the title of valedictorian and for being named a Regeneron semifinalist and finalist.
After remarks by Athletics Director Michael Brostowski, recognition was given to student-athlete Zach Davidson for winning the Pole Vault Nassau County Championship and placing third in the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships.
New Director of Special Education
Cindy Samide was appointed the new Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Education Services at the March 21, 2024, Roslyn Board of Education meeting. She will assume the responsibilities of the position on October 1, 2024, when Director Barbara Schwartz, retires.
