We will post new scholarships at the top of the newsletter; the rest will be listed in order by deadline. We will remove scholarships once their deadline has passed. The Local Scholarship Book - open to all HHS seniors!
All seniors are eligible to apply! Students can apply to as many scholarships as they want but can only win one scholarship from the book. After a student is chosen, their name is removed from all other scholarships in this book. All winners will be announced at the Senior Honors Convocation in May. Any questions should be directed to Shelby Clindaniel or Amanda Hensley. More information can be found on the HHS Students page on Canvas under the Local Scholarship Book tab.

Check out the requirements below to find out if the McDonald’s® HACER® National Scholarship is right for you:
- You’re a high school senior
- You’re a legal U.S. resident
- You’re younger than 21 years old
- You carry a minimum 2.8 GPA
- You’re eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full-time course of study

New! IUN Group Scholars
Groups Northwest aims to maintain diversity and increase the graduation rates of underrepresented students. Scholars will attend a six-week summer bridge program and receive three college credits, fees, and books as part of their summer scholarship. They will also receive up to $1,000 for the academic year, a $250 book credit, and food, transportation, and accommodations for social activities. A Success Coach will mentor the students throughout the academic year. More details are forthcoming.
Requirements:
- Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.3.
- Meet the income and eligibility guidelines for PELL eligibility+ (Free or Reduced lunch might be an indicator).
- Complete the minimum (34 hours) of college preparatory courses (Core40) by graduation.
- We look for students who demonstrate a positive attitude, a sense of civility, the ability to persevere, a strong motivation to succeed, an excellent attendance record, and a commitment to earn a college degree.
- Must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the priority deadline of April 15.
- Must be admitted to IU Northwest by May 1.
- Students must be recommended to the program by May 1.

New! 2023 KPMG Future Leaders Program for women leaders
The KPMG Future Leaders Program is a charitable initiative designed to increase the diversity pipeline of women in business and STEM fields. Funded by the proceeds from the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit, the KPMG Future Leaders Program annually awards twenty-two students in their senior year of high school the opportunity to enhance their personal growth throughout their college experience with annual scholarships, ongoing development and support, mentorship and an introduction to golf.
The (22) selected KPMG Future Leader Recipients will receive:
An annual scholarship of $10,000 per year for 4 years of college
A KPMG Future Leaders Retreat and ongoing support that will focus on leadership training, the college transition and career development

New! CAF Scholarship Program (Northwest Indiana)
Eligibility Requirements & Selection Criteria
- Recipients must be Indiana residents of Lake, Porter, La Porte, Newton, Jasper, or Starke Counties
- Recipients must be pursuing a career in construction or related field (Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, etc.)
- High school GPA > 3.0
- Pass an annual hair follicle drug test
- Evaluation of applicants participation in extra curricular activities in school and/or community
- Recipient must be U.S. Citizen
- Full or part-time students are eligible. Part-time students will be funded on a proportional basis
- No restriction as to school the student attends (applications from students attending online schools are discouraged from applying)
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds are restricted to tuition, fees, books, and room and board only. Payments will be made to student with submission of receipts, or directly to the school upon receipt of an invoice.

New! CAF Scholarships for Tradespeople (Northwest Indiana)
The CAF Scholarship for Tradespeople is intended to support construction trade professionals who are looking to earn their bachelor’s degree in Project Leadership at Purdue University Northwest. The CAF will distribute thousands of dollars of scholarship money every year to numerous construction trade workers. Scholarship amounts will vary based on the number of annual applications. The minimum amount awarded to scholarship winners will not be less than $1000.
Eligibility Requirements
- Award recipient must be a U.S. citizen
- Award recipient must be enrolled in the ‘Project Leadership’ bachelor’s degree program at Purdue University Northwest
- Award recipient must be at least a 3rd year apprentice at time of application
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds are restricted to tuition and associated registration fees. Payments will be made directly to Purdue upon receipt of an invoice for tuition.

New! 2023 IAPSS Sagamore Foundation Scholarship Application
Introduction: The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) will award two $1,000 scholarships in April 2023.
Requirement: Indiana Public High school senior must be related to a current institutional member of IAPSS and attending an Indiana public school. Candidate must be admitted and accepted as full time student at a four or two year college or vocational/technical school. One scholarship will be awarded to a high performing senior majoring in education and planning to become a teacher, and one to an academically high performing and ECA action senior.

HSF Scholar Program Application
HSF empowers families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education, while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional students as possible. Founded in 1975, HSF has awarded over $708 million in scholarships. HSF Scholars have access to valuable Scholar Support Services and, as funding permits, scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.

- It takes an average of 30 minutes for students to complete Phase I of the 2023 HSF Scholar Program Application

2023 Horatio Alger Scholarship Application
DESCRIPTION
As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need.REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to apply for any of the Horatio Alger Undergraduate Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school student in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and

ROTC National Scholarship
After you complete your junior year of high school, you can get a head start on your future by applying for the ROTC National Scholarship (a four-year scholarship), at a participating school.
Your acceptance of the scholarship means a future service obligation of:
- Eight years of Army service, with requirements for active duty in the Army, and/or serving in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard, depending on the scholarship
- You may be eligible to serve part time in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career immediately after graduation

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation awards need-based scholarships to the children of Marines attending accredited colleges, community colleges, and career technical education programs. It’s the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military families, and their mission is to provide scholarship support to every eligible child of a Marine.

Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust, Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship Award is to provide financial assistance for a student(s) who has a parent in active breast cancer treatment or who has lost a parent to breast cancer to attend a post-secondary educational program (technical school or university/college) through scholarship funds.
Eligibility Requirements:
In order to be eligible for consideration, scholarship applicants must:
¯ Have a parent in active breast cancer treatment or has lost a parent to breast cancer.
¯ Be a high school senior, reside within and attend high school (or be home-schooled) in Indiana. (If you do not reside in Indiana, your application will not be considered.)
¯ Plan to pursue a degree, either full-time or part-time, in any accredited post-secondary institution in Indiana.
¯ Have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
¯ Be a U.S. citizen, or documented permanent resident of the U.S. Race, color, creed or sex will not be factors in choosing the Award winner(s).

IASP High School Scholarship (psychology)
The IASP High School Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior who has an interest in pursuing a career in the field of psychology.
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for this scholarship the candidate must:- Be accepted by a college for enrollment
- Be interested in pursuing a career in the field of psychology
- Be in good academic standing
SELECTION
The application must be postmarked or emailed by the deadline is March 1. Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Selection Committee. The committee will consider many factors in reaching their decision, including the completeness of the application; the applicant’s experience and interests; the applicant’s personal statement and accomplishments; the applicant’s letters of recommendation; and the applicant’s degree of scholarship.
ANNOUNCEMENT
The IASP High School Scholarship is for the amount of $500, paid directly to the bursar at the college the student will be attending. The scholarship recipient will be notified on or before March 30, and will be recognized at the IASP Fall Conference.

Crown Point Community Foundation Scholarships - multiple scholarships!
The Crown Point Community Foundation is the financial administrator of over 80 scholarship funds created by generous community donors. Scholarship criteria is chosen by the donor. The scholarship committee reviews all submitted applications and makes recommendations based on the criteria of each scholarship.
Application Process
- Review the Scholarship List below.
- Use the filtering options to determine if you qualify for available scholarships.
- Complete the online General Scholarship Application if you are a graduating high school student or current college/trade school student.
- Complete the online Adult Learner Scholarship Application if you are a non-traditional student (21 and over).
- The scholarship committee reviews all submitted applications and makes recommendations based on the criteria of each scholarship.
- All applicants are notified of their application status by email/mail by May 15th. All awards are paid to the school you are or will be attending.

The Partners for Clean Air Scholarship
The Partners for Clean Air scholarship allows the Partners for Clean Air to give back to the Northwest Indiana community by helping qualified students succeed in post-secondary education goals aligned with clean air and public health. Yearly, PCA will offer one (1) or more scholarship award(s) in the amount of $2,500 to help with post-secondary education expenses. The scholarship(s) will be awarded in May, with a one (1)-time financial distribution occurring in August before the start of classes. To date, Partners for Clean Air has given away $20,000 in scholarships.
Qualifications
To be considered for a Partners for Clean Air Scholarship, applicants must:
- Submit the Partners for Clean Air Scholarship Application by the deadline date (available on the IDEM Agency Forms page)
- At the time of application, be a senior at a high school in Lake, Porter, or LaPorte counties, Indiana, and be on track to graduate
- Have at least a 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Be attending an accredited college, university, or trade school in the following school year
- Be pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree or a minimum two (2)-year trade school certification or degree. Any applicant will be considered provided that the applicant demonstrates how their planned field of study supports the goals of Partners for Clean Air
Criteria Used for Awarding the Scholarship
Applications will be accepted beginning at the beginning of every calendar year. Consideration for this Scholarship opportunity will be limited to the first 100 applications received by Partners for Clean Air and/or those received by the submittal deadline, whichever comes first. Applications must be submitted electronically to IDEMPartnersforCleanAir@idem.IN.gov. To be considered, applicants must meet the criteria identified above, with preference be given to students who have:
- Engaged in community service
- Participated in environmental programs or clubs
- Demonstrated a sincere interest in improving air quality, as supported by the responses to the following questions in Narrative Responses section of the application
- Describe your involvement in community-based programs/organizations, environmental organizations, or clubs, highlighting any leadership roles in which you served
- Describe why clean air is important to you
- Provide at least three (3) ideas/concepts that you believe would help to reduce air pollution
- Explain how, after graduating from your college or trade school, you see yourself implementing and/or participating in activities -- work related or social -- that you believe will help keep our air clean, protect the environment and provide for a better quality of life
- Explain how you believe Northwest Indiana can achieve greater environmental justice and why doing so is important to you
Note: Indiana Department of Environmental Management, as coordinator of the Partners for Clean Air program, is collecting the applications. However, the scholarships are made available by the Partners for Clean Air Membership Program. The Partners for Clean Air Steering Committee will evaluate and select the scholarship recipient(s). Preference may be given to individuals pursuing a course of study in the environmental sciences.

Gail Walker Memorial Scholarship
In 2010, Members Advantage Credit Union established the Gail Walker Memorial Scholarship in memory of the former board member’s years of service. It is awarded annually in the amount of $1,000 in the form of a check payable to the student and the college or university they are attending.
This scholarship is given based on the following criteria:
- Scholastic achievement
- Personal integrity
- Active participation in and service to their community
- Senior in high school, college freshman or sophomore
- GPA between 3.5 to 2.5 on a 4 point scale
- Active participation at a job(s) in your community within the last 4 years

The Indiana Latino Institute has a partnership with 23 colleges and universities who will award up to 2 two full tuition scholarships to eligible Latino high school seniors who are accepted to their school and start August of 2023. Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship provides 200 high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education the opportunity to earn a renewable scholarship of up to $7,500 each year for four academic years. In exchange, students agree to teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school or repay the corresponding, prorated amount of the scholarship.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be an Indiana resident;
- Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;
- Must be a current high school senior or college student in Indiana;
- Must have graduated or will graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school;
- Must be able to utilize the scholarship for at least two full academic years;
- Must meet one of the three Academic Requirements:
- Rank in the top 20% of high school graduating class; or
- Have a top 20% ACT or SAT score; or
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale;
- Must currently attend or plan to attend an Eligible Indiana Institution as a full-time student;
- In some cases, degree-seeking students may use the scholarship during the summer while enrolled part-time. Refer to the specific guidelines for using the scholarship during summer terms.
- Must pursue or intend to pursue a course of study that would enable the student to teach at an eligible Indiana school after college graduation;
- Must obtain a license to teach in Indiana and serve as a teacher in an Eligible Indiana School for five consecutive years after college graduation;
- Must maintain a 3.0/4.0 GPA, complete 30 credit hours per year or their equivalent and meet all other requirements established by their program to renew the scholarship;
- Must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year;
- Must not be in overpayment or default on a federal student loan or grant; and
- Must complete the service requirement or have all funds provided converted to a loan that must be repaid.
**Priority will be given to students graduating high school although current college freshmen and sophomore students are eligible to apply.

Obral Silk & Pal Scholarship
At Obral, Silk & Pal, we have seen firsthand the devastation that an unexpected injury can have on individuals, families, and even entire communities. All too often, these injuries are caused in accidents that are entirely avoidable.
Auto collisions, in particular, are a leading cause of accidental injury in the United States. Motor-vehicle wrecks are responsible for more than 30,000 deaths each year.
Our goal at Obral, Silk & Pal not only is to help the injured, but also to do what we can to prevent these accidents from happening in the first place. With that in mind, we have opened an essay scholarship contest with topics that pertain to car accident avoidance.

Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship
The James W. and Betty Dye Foundation was established to provide scholarships for qualified high school seniors at participating high schools in Northwest Indiana. Jim and Betty Dye Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors to recognize academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and future potential.
The Foundation believes a better educated population will enhance the quality of life for all its citizens. The goals and ideals of the Foundation will be realized if those who benefited from the Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship program live and work in Northwest Indiana following graduation from college.
Eligibility
Any senior from the participating Indiana high schools in Lake, Newton, Porter, and Jasper Counties who satisfies the following criteria is eligible to apply for a Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship.
Applicants that do not meet the minimum eligibility will not be considered.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must live in Lake, Newton, Porter, or Jasper County, Indiana.
- Must be a current senior at a participating high school in Lake, Newton, Porter, or Jasper County, Indiana.
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0).
- Although test scores are optional, additional consideration will be given to applicants submitting a minimum composite 1200 SAT / 25 ACT or greater.
- Must be admitted unconditionally as a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student to one of the following universities:
- Indiana University Bloomington (IU)
- Indiana University Northwest (IUN)
- Purdue University West Lafayette (PU)
- Purdue University Northwest (PNW)
- Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)
- Ball State University Muncie (BSU)

Eligible candidates must electronically submit the Scholarship application no later than 11:59 p.m. CT on March 1st. Supporting documentation consisting of an official high school transcript and the university admission acceptance must be included with the application. IMPORTANT – Do not use a high school affiliated email to create an account, to log-in, or as a contact email. Applications containing a high school affiliated email will be rejected.

Zach Gives Back Scholarship
One student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for the 2023–2024 school year.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicant must be a student enrolled at Purdue University Northwest.
- Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (attach an official copy of transcript to this application).
- Applicant must be studying computer science or computer engineering as a major.
- Applicant must write a brief summary of anything that will provide a more complete picture of yourself including your personal aspirations, career and educational goals (no more than 1,000 words)

Kids Chance of Indiana
1. To begin the application process the student or the parent or guardian should open up the scholarship application (below). Hopefully, the process of filling out the application is is easy and all information requested is available to you. The determination of the amount of your scholarship is primarily based upon the financial needs of the student. Therefore the information concerning finances is extremely important and should be filled out in its entirety. It is also important that you provide information to us that you have attempted to seek the benefits of all federal grants, aids and loans.
2. Kids chance of Indiana has a special Scholarship Committee devoted to reviewing your application. One of the members of that committee will voluntarily spend the time necessary to make sure your application is in proper form and if necessary contact you for additional information. That individual is very important to the processing of your application and therefore please make sure you stay in contact with that individual.
3. Once the application is in final form, Kids Chance has developed a system whereby the approval of the application and the amount to be allocated to the scholarship is seamless and expeditious. From the time you have your application in final form to the time that you are informed of the amount of your scholarship, no more than 60 days should elapse, with some exceptions.
4. All scholarship funds are disbursed to the bursar’s office at your designated school.
5. In order to maintain your scholarship it is important that you maintain a satisfactory academic performance and send to your kids chance contact verification of class enrollment and your semester’s grade report. You must reapply every semester showing evidence of your continuation of an academic program and your recent past successes academically.

Earn entries in monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships by completing steps to plan for life after high school. Every month, BigFuture will award hundreds of $500 scholarships and two $40,000 scholarships until February of your senior year. The scholarships awarded by BigFuture can be used at two and four year institutions.

How to file the FAFSA
Students can file the FAFSA online at FAFSA.gov. The first step for students who have not previously filed the FAFSA is to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Then, each student will need:
- Social Security number
- Alien Registration number (for non-U.S. citizens)
- Federal income tax returns, W-2s and other records of money earned from 2021
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
The U.S. Department of Education provides email and live chat assistance for FAFSA filers as well as a helpline at 1-800-4-FED-AID. Hoosier families can also access free FAFSA help through INvestEd Indiana at www.investedindiana.org.
2023–24 Academic Year
The FAFSA form must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on June 30, 2024. Any corrections or updates must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on Sept. 14, 2024.

On Thursday, February 9th, HHS will host a FAFSA Completion Event which is free to families. This is one-on-one help to file the FAFSA.
