Our Vision: Learning and Growing in Christ
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Sunday's parable is the only parable of Jesus in which the central figure is named. It is not the rich man but Lazarus, the poor man, who is named and therefore given an identity and significance. Christ's eyes gaze upon the neglected and abandoned. It stands to reason that our eyes enlightened by Christ are focused here as well.
The meaning of the name Lazarus is 'God helps'. It is to people such as Lazarus who are welcomed and invited into the kingdom of God. In what ways do we need God's help?
Although Lazarus is described as being covered with sores, the rich man has the greater disease, blindness to this poor man at his gate. He fails to acknowledge Lazarus and cannot see beyond his world of comfort, fine clothes and fine dining. May our eyes be outward looking and our hearts moved and open to the needs of those who are vulnerable around us.
God’s blessings on us all as we come to the end of the term.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
Week 10 and we have completed a full term of 10 weeks with so much to celebrate.
Our staff and students have all been working hard to ensure everyone has made positive gains in all areas of their learning. We have been working to encourage students to take ownership of their own hauora - wellbeing. Students are developing an understanding of their own needs physically, spiritually, socially and emotionally.
There has also been an emphasis on engagement and attendance and we are pleased to say that across the school we have had 87% attendance school wide. While this is good we will still be contacting individual students whose attendance is causing concerns as they are having spasmodic unexplained absences. While we are very aware of sickness, students should be attending 90% - 95% each term. A 10% absence is 5 days which equates to a whole week off school and daily lateness and early finishes are also recorded on our electronic rolls which are calculated as absences as well. This is why it is important to instill in your children the importance of punctuality and timekeeping as this reflects one's ability to self manage as future adults.

St Anne’s Shield and the Gymnastic Competition on Tuesday, 27 September
At last we will be able to compete for the Saint Anne’s Shield with all our neighbouring Catholic Schools. We are all looking forward to this as it has been cancelled for the last three years because of the measle outbreak and then Covid 19. The games will all take place at Bruce Pullman Park starting at 9.30am and finishing about 2pm. We wish all competitors well and hope they will enjoy the games.
We also wish our gymnasts well as they participate in the Papatoetoe Gymnastic Competition that will be held at Gym City, Great South Rd, Papatoetoe.
Sympathy for the Fromont Family
Our prayers and thoughts are extended to the Fromont family at the passing of their wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Trish Fromont was an active member of the PTFA and was one of our first Fair Co-ordinators. Over the years she has worked tirelessly for the school and has always been a great supporter of our school and parish community. The funeral is to be held at Holy Cross Church on Tuesday at 10.30am.
Year 8 Ski Camp - Education Outside the Classroom (ETOC)
On Tuesday, after the St Anne’s Tournament, the Year 8 girls will depart for their final school camp. They will travel to Tongariro Holiday Park and the next day they will head for Mt Ruapehu for their ski experience. After ski lessons they will have the opportunity to practise their skiing for the afternoon. The following morning they’ll be going White Water Rafting and on Friday morning they will visit the Waitomo Caves before travelling back to Auckland.
This is a once in a lifetime experience for some of our students and I hope they will really enjoy and learn from this experience. Special thanks to Mr Ginders, Mrs Ryan, Mrs Kelly and the parents, Mr Brbich, Mr Cowan and Mrs Dinesh who will be accompanying the students on this trip.
School Resources, Netball Uniforms and Lost Property
As the school term draws to a close, please ensure any school books, resources and netball uniforms are returned to the school by next Friday, 30 September.
If your child has lost any clothing please make sure they check the lost property in Room 15 as it is discarded at the end of each term and given to other families.
