What's Happening??!!

Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,

Happy Memorial Day! As we head into the final weeks of the school year, things are busy. It has been a wonderful month with great stuff on the horizon.

Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....

THIS week we are Celebrating Hawley Loves to Read. We have exciting plans for each day, culminating on Friday with our visiting author, Amy Guglielmo.

• Tuesday: Teacher Swap Read Aloud Day & Bookmark Day. Teachers will read to other classes and students will make bookmarks in the theme of “A Pocket Full of Colors” by Amy Guglielmo.
• Wednesday: Paintbrush and Palette Scavenger Hunt Day and Class Color Day.

  Hawley students will hunt for paintbrushes and palettes that staff have decorated and hung throughout the building. Also, students will dress in a favorite color voted on by their class.

• Thursday: Book Swap Day and Hawley Spirit Day. Students bring in a book to donate. All books are sorted by theme and age level. Everyone then goes to the MPR to shop and pick a new book. PLEASE send in your book donation to help make this possible. Everyone will also dress in Hawley Wear.

• Friday: Author visit and Dress Like an Artist Day. Amy Guglielmo meets with all grade levels and everyone dresses like an artist.

Our 4th graders worked so hard and put on such a wonderful show for our school and parents. They were joined by some 3rd graders that participated in a choral before school program. It was impressive!! Congratulations students and Thank you Mrs. Marak.

I am continuously amazed by the artistic talent of our students. This years Art Show was amazing. Hawley was like a museum. Great Work students and Thank You Ms. Giddings and Ms. Griffin.

We had such a beautiful day for our PTA Fun Run. Students spent time in the morning walking and running as a Fundraiser for Hawley. We raised $5,895. Our Top 5 Classes were:

2. Lubin $795
3. Libanio $640
4. Mattera $635
5. Massett $500

Hawley Field Day is Friday, June 7. It is a wonderful day of fun activities. It only happens with Parent Volunteers. To help out, click HERE.

There is going to be Field Activities, a Blow Up Obstacle Course, a DJ, a Magician, Pizza Lunch Truck, the Harlem Wizards and more. Click HERE for more information and reminders.

WOW! What an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week. It was in the theme of Friends. There was breakfast and a lunch. There were gifts and books and door decorations. There were balloons and certificates and photo opps.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for all your appreciation and thoughtfulness.

It was greatly appreciated.

• Books needed for our Book Swap. Please send in gently used books. They will be sorted and displayed. Students will shop during Hawley Loves to Read Week and choose a book to take home.
• Attendance: A student's success is directly connected to them being in school, on time, all day. Please be mindful of absences, tardies, and going home early. It adds up.

" I forgot my shorts and sneakers " replied Mr. M

" Oh that's good, I thought you were afraid of a heart attack " the student answered
