Superintendent's Message
A Message From Dr. Brown-Hall
Welcome to the District Update!
To begin, I first want to welcome Mr. Adam Buffomante, who is the new Principal at Heim Middle School! Today is his first day at Heim and we are excited to add a dynamic administrator to our District. I know he’ll be an incredible resource and leader for the Heim community. I also want to welcome Assistant Principal, Mr. Scott Bielec, who is joining the Williamsville South administrative team beginning today. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and I know our Billies families will enjoy partnering with him!
Last week we announced the appointment of Mr. Jason Swenson, who will be the new Principal at Williamsville East High School. While he won’t begin until October, Mr. Swenson is a familiar face in the District, having previously served as an Assistant Principal at Williamsville South. We are thrilled to have him back in Williamsville!
There are still a few other administrative positions that will be filled over the coming months. We will continue to keep you updated throughout this process. I also want to add that if any parents/guardians and even grandparents or community members are interested in flexible hours and employment opportunities, we are always looking to hire teacher aides, substitutes, food service helpers and more! Please be sure check out the opportunities available on the District app or website and apply today!
While early in the school year, I want to congratulate the following students from Williamsville East and North, who have been named National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists:
From East, Sophie Wang. And from North, Emma Faulhaber, Lincoln Peacock, and Jolynda Wang.
Best of luck as you continue through this incredible scholarship process!
Don’t forget, in partnership with the PTSA Council, we will once again be holding the Speaker Series virtually this year. Our focus in these sessions will be on instruction and we are seeking input on what stakeholders would like a better understanding of – whether that be curriculum or supports for student success. Please email contact@williamsvillek12.org with your suggestions. Thank you!
This week is homecoming at Williamsville South and I cannot wait to see the fun, excitement, and school spirit the Billies show all week long. Extra special – they are also coordinating spirit days with Mill Middle School – building strong community connections with our younger students and families.
Williamsville East’s homecoming will take place the week of September 23rd while Williamsville North’s homecoming festivities get started on October 21st.
Speaking of our high schools, the Seal of Civic Readiness is a new designation our students will able to achieve in their educational careers. Every senior this year has the opportunity to earn this seal! Information is available on the District and high school webpages. Our goal as a District, as evidenced by our Mission and Belief Statements, are to foster and cultivate the next generation of life-long learners and leaders. I know many of our graduates return home and have an impact in our community. The Seal of Civic Readiness will be a key part of this and our students’ educational journey.
Finally, at our Board of Education Meeting last week, we shared the monthly themes we will be highlighting throughout the school year. Sunday marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated and recognized through October 15th. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see video projects of individuals such as Rita Moreno, the first Latina to win an Academy Award and Jaime Escalante, a legendary educator in California, who’s success in the classroom was shared on the silver screen in the movie Stand and Deliver. All of these video projects will be shared on the District’s social media channels.
Please, enjoy the rest of the week and we’ll talk to you again soon.

The Seal of Civic Readiness is a formal distinction on a student’s high school transcript and diploma that they have attained a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, skills, mindset, and civic experiences. It can also be used as a graduation pathway.
In order to obtain the Seal of Civic Readiness, a student must complete all the requirements for a New York State local or Regents diploma and earn a total of six points with at least two points in Civic Knowledge and at least two points in Civic Participation.
