BHS Happenings

It is time for Quarter 4 Progress Reports! Progress Reports will be available on your PowerSchool Parent Portal on Thursday, May 9th. This is the last progress report of the school year. The school year is winding down and before you know it students will be taking their final exams. Final Exams are scheduled for June 10-13, 2024.

Just a reminder that there is no school on May 8th due to Teacher Professional Development. Our AP Literature and Composition students will be taking their AP Exam on this date though. We wish them and all of our AP students the best of luck on their AP Exams, taking place over the next two weeks!

Summer Academy 2024 will be held at Bloomfield High School July 8 - August 2, 2024. This year the following will be offered at Summer Academy: Incoming Freshman Experience, Credit Recovery, Elective Enrichment and Pre-Calculus.

Softball:

• On Friday, April 26th, BHS' Varsity Softball Team defeated HMTCA, 19-1.
• On Monday, April 29th, BHS' Varsity Softball Team defeated Bulkeley, 18-1.
• On Tuesday, April 30th, BHS' Varsity Softball Team defeated Weaver, 15-6.
• On Wednesday, May 1st, BHS' Varsity Softball Team defeated Academy of International Studies, 17-16.
• On Friday, May 3rd, BHS' Varsity Softball Team defeated Weaver, 20-8.
• Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Softball Team who has made the state playoffs for the first time in school history! Go Warhawks!

Baseball:

• On Wednesday, April 24th, BHS' Varsity Baseball Team fell to University/Classical, 9-16.
• On Monday, April 29th, BHS' Varsity Baseball Team fell to Canton, 4-17.
• On Wednesday, May 1st, BHS' Varsity Baseball Team defeated Parish Hill in a double header, 16-1 and 22-0. Freshman Breydon Evans hit an inside the park home run in the second inning to score three runs in the win!
• On Thursday, May 2nd, BHS' Varsity Baseball Team defeated Innovation, 4-2.
• On Monday, May 6th, BHS' Varsity Baseball Team defeated Windsor, 3-2.
• Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Baseball Team who have made the state playoffs for the second year in a row! Go Warhawks!

Tennis:

• On Wednesday, April 24th, BHS' Varsity Tennis Team fell to Windsor, 0-7.
• On Friday, April 26th, BHS' Varsity Tennis Team fell to Plainville, 0-7.
• On Wednesday, May 1st, BHS' Varsity Tennis Team fell to New Britain, 1-6.

Boys Outdoor Track:

• On Saturday, April 27th, BHS' Varsity Boys Track Team competed at the O'Grady Relays at Danbury High School. Event winners for the boys were:
• The Discus Relay of Khile Francis, Mason Gray, and Nejon Bassue
• On Thursday, May 2nd, BHS' Varsity Boys Track Team competed in the Honrets Throw Outdoor Classic at East Hartford High School. Event winners for the boys were:
• Mason Gray in the Mens Championship Hammer
• On Friday, May 3rd, BHS' Varsity Boys Track Team competed in the Middletown Frosh/Soph Track and Field Invitational at Middletown High School. Event Winners for the boys were:
• Mason Gray in the Discus
• Jessie Singleton Jr. in the Triple Jump
• On Saturday, May 3rd, BHS' Varsity Boys Track Team competed in the Org-Jake Spartan Invitational at Amity High School. Event winners for the boys were:
• The 4x4 Relay of Jaheim Lawrence, Ja'Mari Manson, Sergio Rose Jr., and Zachary Blackwood
• Ja'Mari Manson in the High Jump

Girls Outdoor Track:

• On Saturday, April 27th, BHS' Varsity Girls Track Team competed at the O'Grady Relays at Danbury High School. Event winners for the girls were:

• The Long Jump Relay of Indya Norman, April Nathaniel and Taylor Jackson
• The 4x4 Relay of Caleah Baker, Nacquelia Fletcher, Jahniya Barclay and Leilani Walker
• On Friday, May 3rd, BHS' Varsity Girls Track Team competed in the Middletown Frosh/Soph Track and Field Invitational at Middletown High School. Event winners for the girls were:
• Soleigh Dixon in the High Jump
• April Nathaniel won and set a new meet record in the Long Jump
• On Saturday, May 4th, BHS' Varsity Girls Track Team competed in the Middletown Varsity Track and Field Invitational at Middletown High School. Event winners for the girls were:
• Jahniya Barclay in the 400 Meters
• D'Asia Duncan in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a new school and meet record
• The 4x1 Relay of Dream Wilson, Jahniya Barclay, Saphyr Brown and Sianna Lloyd in a new meet record time
• The 4x4 Relay of D'Asia Duncan, Kiylah Williams, Soleigh Dixon and Jahniya Barclay
• Payton Sirdine in the Shot Put
• Saphyr Brown in the Long Jump

Congratulations to BHS Seniors Ashah Oliver and Zachary Blackwood! Ashah and Zachary were honored this past Sunday at the Aqua Turf as Bloomfield High School's 2024 CAS-CIAC Scholar Athletes. They earned this award by excelling both on the court/track and in the classroom!

This past weekend our UCONN ECE Advanced Floral Class participated as designers in the Wadsworth Atheneum Flowers & Art Show in Hartford. Each student was given a piece of artwork to interpret with flowers. Participants are usually professional floral designers, interior designers, and garden club members. The museum was surprised and impressed to see our students participating as high school students.

Last Thursday, BHS' AgriScience Program participated in the Connecticut FFA AgriScience Fair. There were approximately 70 participants from AgriScience programs across Connecticut, BHS had 16 participants. Congratulations to all of our students who participated:

Last Saturday, the Multicultural Club participated in the community's Clean Bloomfield Day in honor of Earth Day. The members, along with Bloomfield's Mayor Wong and Acting Superintendent Dr. Silver, picked up 12+ large bags of garbage and debris around Bloomfield High's surrounding areas. Thank you to all who participated!

Last week students in Mrs. Skarzynski's UCONN Allied Health Class had the opportunity to see an ultrasound of a classmate's eye. The ultrasound allowed students to identify parts of the eye while using medical equipment and terminology. This is one of the many classes at BHS that allow students to earn college credit while simultaneously earning credit toward their high school transcript.
