Keuka College Instant Decision Day

On Wednesday, December 8th, from 12:30 - 2:30 Keuka College will be hosting an Instant Decision program right in Student Services! There will be no application fee and no application to complete. Please see Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien for more information ASAP!

Scholarship Opportunities

• Young Women Making a Different Award (formerly known as the Violet Richardson Award): eligible applicants must be young women who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts (ie: fighting drugs/crime/violence, cleaning up the environment, working to end discrimination/poverty); volunteer actions that benefit women and girls are particularly encouraged. More information can be found online. Application can be found here. Deadline: December 15, 2021.
• SEFCU Credit Union Scholarships - applicants must be the primary member on a SEFCU account; applications will be evaluated on academic performance, community/volunteer activities, and an essay; applicants must plan to attend a two or four-year college/university in the fall of 2022. Application materials can be found here. Deadline: January 7, 2022

1. Robert Cornute Memorial Scholarship - applicant must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts
2. John Ilacqua Memorial Scholarship - applicant must be planning to attend Siena College
3. Jean L. Myers Memorial Scholarship - applicant must be planning to pursue a business degree
4. Smart Sense Scholarship - available to all high school seniors
5. New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) Scholarship - available to all high school seniors

• TCT Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program

1. Visit tctfcu.org to download an application. The student will need to contact the credit union directly to obtain a credit union verification code to verify eligibility. If the student is not a member of TCT FCU, he/she can request a membership packet as well. (All scholarship applicants are required to be members of a participating New York credit union.)
2. Complete the application form and required essay and obtain the required transcripts, along with the signature of a parent or guardian.
3. Upload and submit the completed application and supportive materials online no later than January 7, 2022.

PSAT Score Information --- Reminder!

If you took the PSAT/NMSQT in October, your scores should be released on December 6th and 7th. Emails will be sent about how to create College Board accounts, see score reports online, and unlock personalized resources to prepare for the SAT and explore colleges and careers.

SAT/ACT Testing Information:

The SAT and the ACT will be offered on the following (Saturday) national testing dates. The cost of the SAT is $55. The ACT has a basic fee of $60.00, with an optional writing test (cost with writing is $85.00). If the cost of these tests presents a hardship, you may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please check with Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien.

Summer Research Opportunity at Stevens Institute of Technology School of Business: paid virtual summer research program for high school students; in this six-week program, students will have the opportunity to work alongside a faculty member from the School of Business and assist them with research in their area of study such as entrepreneurship, marketing, management, economics, and finance. At the conclusion of the program students will complete both a written and oral presentation. The written report will include a literature review, and the oral presentation will include a 5-minute video of a PowerPoint presentation detailing their research findings. The program will run from July 1, 2022 - August 12, 2022, and students will receive a $500 stipend after completing the program. Application can be found here.

New Visions Programs

If you are interested in exploring a one year pre-college program in the field of Engineering or Health Careers Exploration, please see your counselor immediately!! The New Visions programs offer an academically rigorous program for the college bound senior. Representatives from each program will be visiting our school on Tuesday, January 25th at 1:00 p.m. to share more information about these programs and help answer any questions interested students may have.

HOBY - Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program

REMINDER --- Registration is now open for the 2022 HOBY State Leadership Seminar!

This multi-day program is proven to provide students with an experience that cultivates personal growth and leadership development while building new connections and friendships throughout the state. Students return from HOBY with a deeper sense of self-awareness, elevated confidence, and the inspiration and tools to give back to their communities through leadership and service.

What is HOBY?

HOBY’s (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.

HOBY programs provide students selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service learning and motivation building experiences.

Who is this for?

High School sophomores from across the country.

When and where is our leadership program?

Where: SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY

When: Friday, June 3, 2022 to Sunday, June 5, 2022.

There will be both an in-person and virtual event

Why attend?

HOBY allows students to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. Students attend seminars and participate in hands on leadership activities, meet leaders in their state and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to make a positive impact in their community.

How do I apply for consideration?

Students must submit a typed, 200-300 word essay on the following topic:

Please describe both the most rewarding and the most challenging aspect of being a leader in your school and/or community.

Students interested in applying also need to submit a typed resume highlighting their involvement in community service.

Once these items have been received by your school counselor, an interview may take place as the final component of the application process.

With the start of the second quarter well underway, we will soon begin planning your individual parent/guardian conferences. During these conferences we will review your progress in 9th grade, select your 10th grade courses, and discuss your plans for after high school. We welcome parents/guardians to attend these conferences! Please be sure to take a look at our Course Description Guide to learn about all the scheduling opportunities you have! Look for more information coming your way after the December break about these conferences.
