TREATS
We love when parents provide treats for students for special occasions, but we have a lot of students with allergies and/or dietary restrictions. To make sure that we are best protecting them please let teachers know at least 2 days prior to sending in treats what you will be sending so teachers can send a message to parents with plenty of notice to send in an alternate treat if needed. We have experienced a few times recently where treats were brought in the day of a special occasion and friends in the class that have allergies were not able to participate because there was not enough time to obtain an alternative treat for them. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this!
***As a reminder, all treats sent in must be store bought and have the ingredient list visible.***
STATEMENTS
Below are instructions to pull a statement from myprocare.com at any time. With the end of year coming very quickly, please utilize this feature of myprocare.com to download your end of year statement at your convenience.
Your statements can be found at myprocare.com using the email address we have on file. If you have not logged in before you will need to create a password, if you have used the website before you may have to verify with a code. On the next screen, click REPORTS on the left of the blue bar across the top of the screen. You need the CUSTOMER STATEMENT option and then click RUN REPORT. This will bring up a pop-up box where you will need to click the date ranges needed to filter the dates and then run the report. You can print or save the report from here.
This feature is available at any time throughout the year.
CAP & GOWNS
Students in K4 & K5 will be charged the $25 fee for their cap and gown along with the January 15th tuition payment. Please reach out if you have an older sibling that has gone through our program, and you still have their cap and gown so we can verify it is the same one we are using this year. If it is, we will order only a 2025 tassel at a cost of $5.
PARKING
Please do not park along the playgrounds at any time. Please utilize the parking spaces for the safety of our students, staff and parents. There are No Parking/Stopping signs along the fence as a reminder.
VALENTINE GRAMS
Valentine Gram sales will begin on Tuesday, January 21st and will end on Monday, February 10th (if supplies last). We have a limited quantity of treats for the Valentine Grams so order yours early! Students will receive a Little Debbie heart cake in the form of a cake pop on Friday, February 14th. Valentine Grams can be purchased through the QR code that will be available beginning on January 21st for $2.00 each.
SICKNESS
We are entering the season where we are beginning to see many illnesses popping up. Please take time to refresh yourself with the OLA's sick policy linked below. I have copied and pasted the first 2 paragraphs that give an overview of the sick policy here for your reference. The actual policy details some frequent illnesses we see in this industry.
Oak and Lily Academy Sick Policy
Our sick policy is that your child must be kept home and not return to school until after 24 hours symptom and medication free from the following symptoms: fever (100°F or higher), a productive cough, green nose discharge, diarrhea, vomiting, rash anywhere on the body (including those that cause an open wound and/or oozing discharge), sore throat, eye discharge, evidence of head lice, or any combination of these symptoms. If you are called to pick up your child from school due to any of these symptoms, they will not be able to return the next day unless a note is provided by the doctor. If any of these symptoms are present at school, a parent will be contacted immediately. From the time of contact, your child must be picked up within 1 hour. Please have arrangements in place that allow you to pick up your child within the 1 hour timeframe.
FUN FOOD FRIDAY
The google doc form has to be completed each week, even if you prepay for a few weeks. We order based on the google docs received NOT the payments that are made. If you order for your child using the google doc for a Friday and then they are absent that Friday, you are still responsible for the order. We order the food on Wednesday afternoon, so we are unable to cancel after that point.
FUN FOOD FRIDAY
Fun Food Friday this week is pancakes, sausage, fruit and juice for $5.00.
Please complete the Google Doc below for Friday, January 17th. The Google Doc must be completed by NOON, Wednesday, January 15th. Payment must be made through Venmo, @oakandlilyacademy, by 6:00 pm Wednesday, January 15th.
DANCE CLASS
"Hi parents and families of Oak and Lily Academy, it's Grace Ann from Little People's Creative Workshop. I wanted to let you all know that we do have spots available in dance class if you are interested in registering your little ones! The beginning of the new year is a great time to start as we are beginning a new curriculum and we will be having a parent observation class in just a few weeks! We focus on dance technique, movement coordination, balance and flexibility, theater/acting skills, and so much more! We also learn different muscles of the body and how to stretch them, as well as music and rhythm skills. Class is every Tuesday afternoon and the cost is $58/month. If you are interested in registering you can go to our website, [http://www.lpcw.com!/]http://www.lpcw.com! I have attached our informational handout for you to look over as well. Please email me at lpcwvashore@yahoo.com with any questions. I look forward to working with your little ones!
Thanks so much,
Grace Ann"
WATER TESTING
In 2020, the General Assembly passed legislation, creating § 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia to help prevent and detect childhood lead exposure in certain child day programs. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), lead is especially harmful to the health of children because it can interfere with brain development.
In accordance with this legislation, the Virginia Department of Health mandated that all schools and childcare facilities would have to test the water in their facility and report the findings by December 31, 2024. We completed this process the week of December 16th and received the results December 20th. I am happy to report that the water at both the Suffolk Campus and the Portsmouth campus passed the lead testing with excellent results. The results have been submitted to the state and will be followed up on during our annual inspections due in the next few months at both campuses.
Please feel free to reach out to me via email, donna.davis@oakandlilyacademy.org, if you have any questions about the process or results.
Speech Therapist
Did you know we have a speech therapist that comes to OLA for free speech evaluations and therapy?! Dawn Kidd has been with OLA since 2017 and has successfully worked with many of our students through the years. If you are interested in having your child evaluated, please let your child's teacher know and we will get you the permission form. Dawn will come to the school and evaluate them during the day free of charge and then meet with you with the results. If therapy is suggested, it can be done during the day at OLA!
OLA MERCH
We have been in the process of updating our Logo over the past couple of months and we will be debuting a new website in the next month or so. As part of this change, we have set up a shop for you to take a look at and purchase merchandise if you are interested. We love showing off all of our OLA merchandise! Follow the link below to take a look at some of the cool items we've created.
DON'T FORGET
- Please be sure to send all utensils needed for each day
- School starts promptly at 8:30 AM for student's enrolled in PK2 through K5. Student's arriving after this time may miss circle time, resources, centers or other important information for the day. Please make every effort to be on time daily. Student's in K5 are tardy after 8:35 AM.
- Breakfast can be brought for students until 8:00 am. Anyone arriving after 8:00 will not be able to eat breakfast in class.
- Any item brought for naptime (stuffie, pillow, etc.,) needs to remain here for the week. Please do not send items that need to go back and forth daily.
- Please do not send toys to school unless a teacher has requested them for show and share or some other reason. They are a distraction for both your child and others in the classroom.
