Sentinel Snapshot

We take a lot of pride in creating opportunities for students to learn about themselves, and about their world. In the past five years, we have had dozens of Sentinel students travel all over the globe in search of unique knowledge and experiences. Last summer two of our students, Kyra Anderson and Allison Boucher, flew to China to participate in the Youth Debate Challenge. Their surprise debate topic was about whether the availability of fragmented information has positively or negatively impacted our collective cognitive abilities. Out of the sixteen teams representing all of China and the United States, our team won 8th place! And, in perhaps the most impressive detail of this whole story, neither of our students had ever debated before! With truly world class thinking on display, our Sentinels amazed and impressed.

On Wednesday, our students will spend some time in their advisory class reviewing the Run, Hide, Fight protocol for responding to an active shooter scenario. After watching this video published by the FBI, students and teachers will discuss potential primary and secondary responses based on their location on campus. While this is the most unpleasant topic to cover, it's also a critically important one to review with high school students frequently.
