CLASS SPOTLIGHT: Mrs. Shields's Transitional Kindergarten
Hello from TK!
Wow, what wonderful learning we have had in TK so far this year! Students are really thriving in having extended opportunities to learn and play.
In Math, we have begun exploring instant recognition of a quantity up to 6. Students have also started to explain their thinking and tell how they viewed a dot pattern. Ways we will continue to practice this include the use of dice, card games, and snowman-counting activities.
In Literacy, students are practicing letter sound and letter name identification daily. The entire class has grown in their proficiency of overall letter sound and letter name identification, which is very exciting!
We have also been very focused on the skill of rhyming and will continue to build on this throughout
January. Students have been working very hard to earn Bronco Bucks through being engaged in activities, respectful, in-control, and more. Many have grasped how to remain in-control of emotions, even when disappointment sets in or a conflict develops. Current strategies used include using our Suri the Spider Solution Kit or the Timmy the Turtle Technique (stop and think). I am very proud of students for understanding how to regulate their emotions!
Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
-Mrs. Shields
FOOD DRIVE SUCCESS
Each year, RGS hosts a Food Drive benefitting the Ritzville Food Pantry. This year, a total of 1,935 items (1,233 pounds of food) were donated!
The class that collected the most items was 3rd grade with 348! Each of the top 4 classes donated over 300 items. GREAT JOB!
THANK YOU!
January is School Board Appreciation Month!
RGS appreciates the school board's dedicated service to our students, families, staff and community!
