Bear Valley Bugle
October 2024
October
Happy October! Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed our Fall Family Night and Glow Party Dance and thank you to the PTA and numerous volunteers who made the event so amazing. Our Friends of Bear Valley Fundraiser was successful and raised funds for the school through the donations and auction. Those funds support things including teacher grants, technology upgrades, enrichment and supplies.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on October 23 and 24 and school is released at 11:30 both days. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss the progress of your child. Please know that if you elect to take a vacation during the conference week, the teachers might not be able to accommodate a different time. While school may seem like it is shorter that week, the dedicated time to meet with teachers is important. Sign up for a conference here: https://apps.asdk12.org/ConferenceScheduling/StudentScheduleStartExt.aspx

There is no school on October 18 for grading day/ end of quarter and no school on October 25 for inservice. We know October can be challenging with the lack of consistency in schedules, but helping your child maintain routines when school is in session will be helpful.
We are excited to announce that we will be having an Artist In Schools 2 week long intensive with Flozone Artist- Ives Viray starting on October 28. He will be here in music and PE classes to work with all of our students on Breakdancing. The 4th and 5th graders will be putting on a performance November 8. More information to come.
For planning purposes, please be aware that November 5th- Election Day has changed to a remote learning day. More information can be found HERE. Teachers will be communicating out the remote learning plan for the day for your child.
Feel free to reach out if you need anything. Thank you for supporting your child's education this year!

Readers!
Second graders are working hard on reading skills. They practice each day using our CKLA reading program. The students enjoy reading aloud to partners when they can. Encourage your child to share their reading skills with you at home!
Snow for a Moment!
5th graders enjoyed playing in the snow, even for just a day! The snow is coming.... and winter gear will be helpful to bring. As the days get colder students should have boots, snow pants, jackets, mittens/gloves and a hat.

Bear Valley Personal Property Policy
ASD Personal Property Policy
Adapted from the ASD Student Handbook
Student desks and/or coat closets are not secure enough to store personal property (e.g. iPods, electronic devices, etc.) The same restrictions apply to toys, Pokemon Cards, legos, earbuds, etc. These and other items are not permitted at school. Cell phones must be turned off and stored during the school day (8:40-3:30- and not be taken out until students are in a bus or vehicle) including lunch/recess. Smart watches must have bluetooth/wifi disconnected as these can function in the same way as a cell phone.Repeated violations will be regarded as willful disobedience.
ASD is not responsible for loss or theft of personal property.
Birthday Celebrations
To minimize distractions during the school day, we are asking that parents refrain from bringing in balloons and treats for birthdays. We have students with allergies and treats are not always appropriate. We do a special certificate, pencil and announcement from the office, as well as classroom recognition.
Crumbl Cookie Coloring Contest
Return this page to Crumbl Cookie for a chance to win $100 for our school and a class cookie party! Return the coloring page by October 26 to Dimond or Tikanhtnu.
Book to Share
Right now I am reading the Anxious Generation. This book has been very eye opening to the impact that technology including gaming, social media and apps have on our students. I would recommend the read for any parent or caregiver wanting to know more about how to help support the advances in technology and the impacts it can have on childhood. We are also looking at getting a screening of ScreenAgers for our Bear Valley families. Look for information regarding the showing of this movie. - Mrs. Scherer
