PICTURES AND NEWS
CELLO PRACTICE
This Discovery student took up the cello this year and has made remarkable progress. Mr. Charpentier is her teacher. He travels frequently between the district's elementary/middle school to provide strings instruction. Note: There is a band and strings concert this Thursday, February 15th at 6:30pm, if you have the time to come and celebrate students like this cello player.
EXPLORERS 3RD GRADE SPELLING
Ms. Halvorsen took fifteen minutes between other forms of instruction to work on spelling skills. In this case she had students work on words that showcased the letter "r". Ms. Halvorsen would call out a word and students would write it down on small whiteboards for her to see. She could then appreciate their accuracy or help direct them towards correctly spelling the word. It appeared to be a cheerful, safe classroom for students to share their spelling knowledge.
USA 8TH GRADE MATH
Mr Cioffi, Ms. Bogart and Mr. Salit guided students through a lesson on slopes and algebra. Monday morning, 2-12-2024.
7TH GRADE BASKETBALL GAME WITH GEORGIA

CO-WINNERS OF A POPSICLE PARTY

PUPPY
Ms. Degree (staff member in Ms. Emmon's kindergarten room) came by Ms. Margaux's office to hold the visiting foster puppy.

ROBOT ADVENTURES
As seen in the below video, robots at City school are suffering from winter boredom. They had so much fun during the month of code in December but now are tucked away in their boxes awaiting adventure. What does this have to do with you? Your class can help give the robots a vacation. Simply let the STEAM team know which robot you want and when! We will deliver the robots to you-- ready to go!

Not sure which robot to choose? Our makerspace website lists all the robots we have (as well as the quantity) and has a video showing how they work with each one, as well as details on ease of use OR just reach out and we can help match your class with an appropriate robot. BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Black History Month is a celebration of Black American history and achievement that takes place each February in the United States. It is also called African American History Month. During Black History Month, many people learn about the accomplishments of individual Black Americans as well as the contributions of Black people to American history. This February, we are excited to celebrate Black voices with books that center around Black lives, Black joy, and Black stories that are sure to resonate far beyond a single month of the year. Join us as we #ShareBlackStories and checkout books from our City School library collection.
CHANGE SINGS
In this stirring, much-anticipated picture book by presidential inaugural poet and activist Amanda Gorman, anything is possible when our voices join together. As a young girl leads a cast of characters on a musical journey, they learn that they have the power to make changes—big or small—in the world, in their communities, and most importantly, in themselves.
KAMALA HARRIS
Meet Kamala Harris, the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian American to be elected Vice President of the USA.
Little Kamala used to accompany her parents to civil rights marches in California, tied to her sister’s stroller so she wouldn’t get lost. From an early age, she dreamed of becoming a lawyer to help people in need. At university, Kamala felt like she could do anything and everything. She earned a law degree to make sure the most vulnerable were protected by justice. Kamala’s life was full of firsts, including becoming the first woman, Black woman, and South Asian American to be elected Vice President. As Kamala stated to little girls everywhere in her speech—she may be the first but she won’t be the last.
