SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT SERVICES NEWS & UPDATES
· Principals your building coordinator will be meeting with you to discuss inclusive practices, parallel resource rooms, class size for inclusion and professional development needs. Please schedule a meeting with your coordinator and complete the Inclusive Practices Questionnaire for Administrators. The deadline for submission is Thursday, October 22, 2015. The questionnaire is located in our Google form at http://goo.gl/forms/QidcpXml1u
· All intervention specialists district-wide will be receiving support materials in school mail the week of 10/12-10/16. The materials include IEP Smart Goals, Critical Thinking Skills and strategies in inclusive settings.
· On October 16th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Hudson Distribution Center in the Library (door three). Our Department will host a NEW Special Education Teacher Workshop. The session has been created to provide support for up to 50 new special education teachers. The session will be led by Supervisor of Special Education Support Services, Kimberly Burke. The following topics will be reviewed: Disability Awareness/Categories, IEP Anywhere, ETR (reading, understanding, and connecting to the IEP) and Behavior Management. Principal approval is required. Encourage your new special educators to attend! Interested new teachers should contact Kim Burke (kburke@columbus.k12.oh.us) for sign up information after obtaining Principal approval.
· We will be launching our video and webinar series in November and December. If any administrator, teacher and/or special education chair has suggestions on topics that we should cover please email those suggested topics to Darlene Kocher dkocher6356@columbus.k12.oh.us .
· During the next professional development days on October 16th and November 2nd each High School building principal will need to select three inclusive practices team members to participate in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) PD. This is a two day training. The PD will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at The Educational Service Center of Central Ohio located at 2080 Citygate Drive Columbus, OH. 43219. Please send an email with the three teacher names to Darlene Kocher at dkocher6356@columbus.k12.oh.us This is a required PD for three members of the High School inclusive practices team only. Send this information by EOB on Monday, October 12th.
