🌟 Value of the Month: Excellence 🌟
This October, we're all about **EXCELLENCE**!
But what does excellence really *look* like? Picture this: walking into class feeling totally prepared, your notes organized like a pro , and raising your hand with confidence because you *know* you've put in the effort. It's not about being perfect—it's about showing up, giving your best, and striving to improve every day.
And how does excellence *feel*? Like a high five from your future self! It's that rush of pride when you see your hard work pay off, whether it's an A on your project, a new skill mastered, or simply knowing you didn’t give up when things got tough.
Excellence is when your efforts speak louder than words. It’s pushing past “good enough” to be your best self, while still cheering on your friends to do the same. It’s *teamwork, perseverance, and a dash of that can-do attitude*—all wrapped up in one awesome package.
So this month, let’s aim high and keep the excellence flowing in everything we do!

Pioneers of Change: "Shaping the Future Together.” 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month our students will explore the rich cultural traditions of Hispanic and Latin American countries in P.E. class through fun and engaging activities. Students will have the unique opportunity to play Pok-a-Tok, an ancient Mayan ball game with physical skill and teamwork. We will also learn traditional dances, allowing students to experience the rhythm and movement of different cultures, while playing various culturally-inspired games that highlight the importance of community and collaboration.
In Music, students will participate in sing-a-longs from Disney’s Coco and Encanto. Each class we will watch a short Clip from the movie, and have a discussion about the scene and how it relates to Hispanic culture.
In the Library, we will indulge in books that embrace the culture, shine light on the accomplishments, and detail the journey of Hispanic characters and writers. Students will have the opportunity to play Loteria which is perfect to teach students about Hispanic culture and reinforce their Spanish vocabulary! Through Hispanic inspired films students will reflect on the social and emotional aspects of the film and how these areas are displayed in Hispanic communities through observations and documentation. We will be diving into the traditions of Hispanic culture such as Fiesta Quinceañera and Día de Muertos. We will also be exploring the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
In Art, students will celebrate Hispanic Heritage by engaging in art projects that reflect the diversity and traditions of Hispanic cultures, while fostering creativity and cultural appreciation. Students will learn about the diversity within the Hispanic community by creating flags of different Hispanic countries and foster creativity by designing and decorating traditional sombreros. Students will also explore the use of color and patterns in traditional Hispanic clothing, focusing on ponchos and understand the cultural significance of Día de los Muertos by creating decorative skulls (calaveras) using vibrant colors and patterns.
