Golden Eagles are golden at Winter Games
The Golden Eagles special Olympic Snowshoe Team took to mountain creek in style! The 2025 SONJ Winter Games was a spectacular showing by CR on and off the mountain. Rose Matsil was given the honor to be this year's Opening Ceremony emcee! Where she hyped up the crowd, announcing all the delegates, special guests, and most importantly signaling the lighting of the torch for the games to begin! Central ran in the 200 meter snowshoe race and the 100 meter snowshoe sprint. Tripp Corrigan earned a Bronze in the 200M and a Silver in the 100M. Shane Erickson earned Gold for the 200M and Bronze in the 100M. Kellen Hess placed fourth in both the 200M and the 100M. Thatcher Pero raced for a Bronze in the 200M and a Silver in the 100M. James Nagy flew in the 100M for Gold and Silver in the 200M. Rose Matsil soared for gold in the 200M and earned a fourth place finish in the 100M. That brings Central Regional medal count to 9 gold, silver, and bronze finishes. All athletes cheered for each other and made memories that will last a lifetime. Coach Murphy is so proud of all the athletes who competed.

Boys Basketball Raised $25,003 in Jimmy V Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase
Boys Basketball wins Divisional Championship currently 19-2
The boys basketball team has claimed a divisional title for the 3rd year in a row. The team is currently undefeated in division play and looks to go deep in the Shore Conference Tournament and NJSIAA State Tournament in the next few weeks. Senior Jaycen Santucci scored his 1500th point in his career, passing all time great Harry Garris for second in school history. This season ,Jaycen has scored 412 points, Jayson King and Royalty Riley both have over 200 points while Aidan Graham and Derek Roth have scored over 100 points.
Girls Wrestling claims 2 Shore Conference Champions
The girls wrestling team is currently 10-1 on the season as tournament time is approaching. They had two HUGE wins against previously undefeated Lakewood and Manchester. The girls defeated Lakewood, 32-29 and Manchester 48-24. This is the first time Lakewood has lost a dual meet in 2 years. Jade Hahn had a huge Triple Overtime win against Daniela Palacios, avenged her loss at the Golden Eagles Grapple. Brooke Twohig also had a massive decision win. They also defeated Trenton Central, 36-28 a couple of nights prior.In that win their were 3 crucial wins by Tina Johnston, 11-8, Lilliana Comstock, 9-4 and a pin by Brooke Twohig secured the win.
Freshman Sophia VanSplinter and Junior Liliana Alicea were crowned champions at the Shore Conference Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Boys Wrestling qualifies for NJSIAA State Tournament
The Central Regional wrestling team put on an impressive performance and secured a berth in the NJSAA wrestling tournament with a 53-27 win over Pennsville Memorial . Key victories included Mason Lugo and Luke Condello, both earning first-period pins, while Alexander Setaro dominated with a lightning-fast pin in just 42 seconds. Donovan Stesner picked up a commanding 15-0 technical fall, and Mason Medina added another pin at heavyweight. Max Stierle also came up big, securing a fall in under a minute. In the following match the Golden Eagles were victorious against Monmouth Regional. In the match, Freshman Noah Roberts had his first Varsity victory by putting 6 points on the board.

Boys and Girls Swim conclude successful season
- The boys and girls swim season have both concluded. The boys finished with a 6-3 record while the girls finished the season at 5-3. The boys Swim team qualified for the state tournament and lost to Cherry Hill West 76 to 94. The boys team was led by Drew Westhoven and finished 4th place at the Shore Conference Swim Meet. Drew placed 2nd in both the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. He along with Aidan Wenzel, Chase Corbett & Kaden Stout finished 2nd in the 200 medley relay and 3rd in the 400 freestyle relay. Aidan Wenzel also finished in 5th place in the 100 backstroke and 7th place in the 200 IM. The girls team placed 9th at the Shore Conference Swim meet. Ella Westhoven for placed 3rd in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 100 breaststroke. Graceanna Rizzo placed 6th in the 200 free. The relay team of Graceanna Rizzo, Ella Westhoven, Danica Barron, and Amelia Wenzel placed 6th in the 400 freestyle relay and the team of Graceanna Rizzo, Ella Westhoven, Danica Barron, and Carly O’Brien placed 7th in the 200 freestyle relay.

Girls Bowling ranked #16th in state as State Tournament approaches
Despite a 8-8 record, the Girls Bowling team is ranked 16th in the state and is seeded #2 in South Jersey Group 3 NJSIAA Bowling Tournament. The team has been collecting some hardware over the past few weeks as they placed 3rd at this year's Ocean County Team Challenge, 2nd place at the Eastern Game of Throws Invitational, and earning 5th place (of 22 teams) at the CJWC tournament. During that time, Morgan Hawks bowled the highest female game on the state this year with a 290. Sophomore Rachael Crick has the highest average on the team with a 179.06.
Boys Bowling placed 2nd at Eastern Game of Throws
The boys bowling team secured an impressive 2nd place at the Eastern Game of Throws recently. Despite being 5-11 the team has secured the #4 seed in the NJSIAA Group 3 South Jersey Tournament. They along with the girls bowl in one of the toughest divisions in the state. Anchoring the team this year has been Shore Conference Individual tournament participant Josh Sommers with a 199.33 average

The girls basketball team has won 4 of its last 10 games.Within the stretch the team had a thrilling victory over Donovan Catholic on senior night. With 5 seconds left in the game, Donovan was on the free throw line. Emma Christensen rebounded the ball after the miss and was fouled with 4 seconds left in the game and she would be sent to the free throw line with 2 free throws and the team down by 1 point. Emma would make both free throws and secure a 34-33 comeback win. Emma lead all scorers with 11points and Senior Vita Kelyman had 10 points. Senor Ava Schmidhauser had two clutch 3 pointers and Senior Addison Nolan chipped in 5 huge points.
Ice Hockey team displays never give up attitude
The ice hockey team has not had the success they are use to on the ice this year, but that is not deterring the spirit of the team. The players are practicing hard every day and competing on the ice, while improving in every aspect of the game. Goalie Joey Matos has 534 saves on the season and Freshman Chris Lash leads the team with 16 points, Noel Acevedo, Kyle Maguire, and Tucker Powderly are tied to lead the team with 7 goals each. The team will travel up to the Prudential Center for their annual game this weekend.

Track teams are having a record setting season season
The boys track team has had a busy season. At the VA Showcase in Virginia Beach, Nnaemeka Amaechina finished 10th in the invitational triple jump against nationally ranked competition. This season, Nnaemeka has jumped 23’1.75” in long jump and 45’10” in triple jump. He is the #1 long jumper in the state and the #5 triple jumper in the state. Dominic Prasad has jumped 6’2” in high jump this season, which qualified him for Nike Indoor Nationals in March. Javier Sanchez and TJ Snyder have led the distance team with a pair of sub-5 minute miles, running 4:49 and 4:54 respectively. Zach Cramer has been the team’s best thrower this season with an indoor personal best mark of 42’3”. The pole vault trio of Fran Adamo, Aiden Roder, and Danny Troncoso have scored crucial team points this season in the difficult event. Aiden Roder also placed 6th in the Shore Conference with a lifetime best jump of 11’6”. The team enters the postseason with their eyes set on continued success at the state and national level.
Girls track and field traveled to Virgina for the Virgina showcase and had a banner weekend.
They set or broke 5 school records at the meet. Alana Napolitano won the shot put and broke the school record with a throw of 37’0.25”. Breyanna Sullivan Broke the 300 school record with a time of 43.55.Samantha Boyle , Channce Morrison, Ciara Lohmann, and Maycie Trieney set the 4x55 Hurdle record with a time of 42.22. The 4x200 team of Addison Frulio, Samantha Boyle, Breyanna Sullivan and Jorydan Buccos broke the record set in 2012 with a time of 1:50.15. Last came Frosh Kaitlyn Ytreboe who broke the 1000m record with a time of 3:25.69. During championship weeks we expect to see a few more records fall. Congratulations girls.
