Message from Superintendent Cybulla
Dear East China Families,
Exciting news from the East China Educational Foundation (ECEF)! At this month’s Board of Education meeting, the Foundation proudly announced the recipients of its Spring Grants, totaling an impressive $11,005.86. These funds will go directly to supporting our amazing ECSD classrooms and educators.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated ECEF board members, whose unwavering support makes this possible. A special shout-out to Mike Domagalski, the ECEF Board Chair, for his leadership and commitment.
Congratulations to the Spring Grant winners: Rachel Radigan, Cristina Malburg, Kenzie McCloskey, Darcee Schneider, Megan Hargrave, Dale McNabb, Jackie Franklin, Tyler Woznak, Jennifer Antonelli, Melissa Raymo, Jeani Van Hecke, Jodie Guzowski, Stacy Schweihofer, Kelly Robbins, Kate Volpe, Michelle Davis, Tiffany Jarskey, and Marney Williams!
Be on the lookout for photos of these grants in action, coming soon to the ECEF’s Facebook page!
The ECEF’s signature fundraisers – the FORE! Golf Outing and the Chili Heart Run & Cook-Off – are the driving forces behind the funds that fuel these incredible grants. These exciting events help make it possible to continue supporting our classrooms. A huge thank you to the sponsors and participants whose generosity and enthusiasm make it all possible!

What's Happening In Our School...
Palms Elementary
Love is everywhere at Palms Elementary
In connection with our teaching & learning about Love as a character strength, students and teachers enjoyed Valentine’s Day parties just before Mid-Winter Break. There were games, activities, candies, and fun! It was also great to see many parents come into the building and help with the activities and learning happening as part of Love and Valentine’s Day. The teachers and students are focused on a different character strength every two weeks at Palms and some of these concepts include Humility, Perseverance, Self-Control, Fairness, and more!
5th Graders Explore the Constellations
Recently in February, the 5th grade students in Mrs. Versteegden’s 5th grade Science class were introduced to the Earth’s orbital movement around the Sun, as a means of seeing why the constellations change. In the activity, Universe-in-a-Box, students made a paper model that helped them visualize the Earth’s yearly orbit around the Sun. They used this model to understand why some constellations are only visible during part of the year. The students loved this unit as well as the activities and projects that made this learning truly come to life!
Young 5's Class Explores Teen Numbers
The Young 5's students in Mrs. Woodhouse’s classroom have been actively exploring teen numbers through hands-on activities. They’ve been learning to write and count these numbers while focusing on understanding the tens and ones places. Using manipulatives like linking chains, they can visually represent numbers by making groups of tens and adding individual ones, which helps reinforce the concept of place value. This approach makes the abstract idea of teen numbers more concrete for the students. Way to go, Young 5's!
4th Grade Class Creates Timelines
The 4th-grade students at Palms Elementary have been working on thinking like a historian and using timelines in social studies. The kids in Mrs. Flasher’s classroom recently spent several days coming up with some important events that happened in their lives, with their family. They brought those events to school and made a big timeline of their life. They illustrated and added pictures to make them look extra nice. It’s always great to see learning connect with the real world!
