The Cougar Connection
Lafayette Elementary September 30th
Dear Cougar Families,
This weekend Megan enjoyed watching CU dominate in college football, then was not so excited when she lost almost all of her NFL picks. She also made some very vanilla-heavy Muddy Buddies with her nieces. Robin helped close up the camper for the season and went to a concert with Megan in Denver.
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Meet and Greet with the PTO last week. We had a great turn out and heard many ideas! If you missed out, don’t worry, we will have another Coffee Chat this Friday outside of the main office. One question that came up was around Help At Schools (HAS). HAS is a website we use to sign volunteers up for different activities happening at the school- field trips, volunteering at Laps for Lafayette, class parties, filling Friday folders, etc. Please keep an eye out at this LINK for volunteer opportunities! (Nudge nudge- Parent teacher conferences are coming up and we’d love to honor our teachers with a Taco Bar!)
Please reach out to Patty Gruber if you are having trouble signing up for Parent Teacher Conferences. She can be reached at our main school phone number 720-561-8900. Parent Teacher Conferences will begin next week!
Parent-Teacher Conferences (KG~5th):
10/8 (In-Person) 3:00-7:30
10/10 (In-Person) 3:00-7:30
10/16 (Virtual) 3:00-7:30
*** Our specialists, interventionists and specials teachers also are available to meet with during conference nights for meetings.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Laps for Lafayette Event on Friday, October 18th. It’s an amazing community event and a fundraiser of the school year. Every dollar raised goes directly back to our school courtesy of our PTO. It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year- let’s show up for Lafayette! Please look out for the parent letter in Friday folders this week with volunteer opportunities and the donation link: cougarpto.org/laps
October 1st, is the State of Colorado’s Official Pupil Count Day! The amount of money our school gets from the State of Colorado is based on how many students we have on our official “Pupil Count Day.” As always, thank you for the great attendance cougars!
Lastly, we want to celebrate our amazing custodians who keep our building clean and safe. Happy Custodian Appreciation Day- Carlos and Pete! We are still hiring for a part-time night custodian. Please spread the word!
Go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Megan Weir, Principal and Robin Stone, Dean of Students

Health Room Update
Hello families! I'm happy to be a part of your school community as the health room para! I have been reorganizing the spare clothes we have for kiddos who may have a bathroom accident, a spill or other clothing concern during the school day and we are in need of the following donations. No need to buy new items, things your family has outgrown are perfectly acceptable!
We have a good selection of bikini style underwear in 8's and 10's but are in need of size 6. We need some additional boxers / briefs in all sizes. We can use a variety of shorts, sweatpants and short sleeve t-shirts in all sizes and styles.
Please also send spare clothes in your child's backpack. They will feel more comfortable in their own clothes should they need to change during the day.
Thank you!
Katie Walkenhorst
Counselor's Corner
Counseling will deliver the Second Step Bully Prevention lessons in the months of September and October. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn. To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Program. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
• Recognize when bullying is happening
• Report bullying to a caring adult
• Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
• Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying. Please encourage the message at home, as well.
