ASSESSMENTS CONTINUE THIS WEEK!
Please note CELL PHONES AND WATCHES will need to be off and in backpacks during this time. It is practice that these items be off or in school mode, but during testing we will ask that all smart watches also be in the backpacks just as all phones must be. Thank you for your understanding of testing protocols.
To get students assessment-ready and set them up for success, please help us with the following:
Help students get plenty of rest during our testing weeks.
Students should eat a healthy and robust breakfast each morning to give their brain fuel for the day.
Please be sure students have a water bottle with them here at school each day.
Have students to school on time and try to avoid absences until testing has ended.
*Appointments before or after school are greatly appreciated. Students who miss their assessments each day must make up the test later, causing an additional loss of instructional time. We are making every effort to focus our instruction on supporting students with mastery of their grade-level standards, so attendance is critical.
Also, please note that we will not be calling students out of the testing each day, as it disrupts the environment and our students. (State assessments for 3rd-5th grade are from 9:15-11:30 each day until testing is complete.)
Again, thank you for partnering with us!
Drop Off and Pick Up
Please make sure you pull forward as far as possible to our crosswalk near the south entrance, allowing more cars into the loop and for traffic to flow easier. Do not stop down by the playground. Your student can walk the extra steps to get to the gate.
Need to assist your child? Please park in the lot and use the crosswalk to walk your child onto campus. Otherwise, please remain in your vehicle and have your child exit independently.
Also, please be sure you are not blocking the crosswalks in the neighborhoods. Our SRO asks for your assistance with this matter, as well as not blocking the turn into the school parking lots.
We are also seeing parents pull out of line and go around cars. Please be patient and wait for the cars in front of you to move before you exit the parent line. We appreciate your help with this matter.
Again, not only does the staff appreciate your help, but our neighborhood families also appreciate your thoughtfulness.
HAWKS READING CHALLENGE
Your child has already received the Hawks Reading Challenge Booklet. If they are interested in working toward a free game ticket, please had them start tracking their reading!
When your child has completed the reading of 4 books, you may sign the reading assignment for your child where it lists "Teacher Signature." Your child will then submit the reading assignment page to Mrs. Senethavilay in the front office.
Please be sure to complete all sections of the Reading Assignment page to include the personal information in the lower right corner of the page. ONLY this page is required to be returned.
These forms are due MAY 2.
LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER?
Please click the SIGN UP link. This sign-up list will take us through the end of the year.
Unverified Absences
We are noticing an unusual amount of “Unverified Absences”. Please note that these turn into truancies after two days. If your student is going to be absent for any reason: illness, personal, etc., please call the school at 208-350-4490 and verify with the main office the reason for the absence. If you prefer to email, please include the teacher and front office.
Also, please take a moment to log into PowerSchool and review your child’s absences. If your child was absent due to a medical, dental, or other provider appointment, a medical excuse can be submitted by the provider and faxed to 208-350-4499. You may also bring the documents directly to the office or scan and email documents to hill.jenene@westada.org. If you have questions or feel there has been an error in the recording of the attendance, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for continuing to work on this situation to make sure your child is at school daily and timely.
iReady Summer Splash is coming soon!
iReady Summer Splash is a 4-week math program for currently enrolled students in West Ada School District. Summer Splash allows students to learn at home as they supplement their school year instruction and further refine their foundational skills, all while avoiding the "summer slide". It will run from June 1st to July 1st. Packets will be coming home with every student with directions on how to participate. If your student will need a device, please click here to opt into keeping your device by May 12th :
If you have completed the above survey for your child to have a device, those will be sent home on May 30.
