Our youngest Mustangs have been learning all about respect by being good listeners and making good friendship choices. Next week, our third through fifth grade Mustangs will begin their lessons. In third grade, we focus on perspective-taking and the ability to consider a situation from another person's point of view to show respect. Our fourth graders will practice using the Tree of Choices to practice conflict resolution. Healthy conflict resolution between classmates it the ultimate show of respect. The fifth grade Mustangs will discuss how effective leaders not only earn respect, but they also extend it to others. Leadership and respect go hand in hand. When we are polite and respectful to others, people are more willing to work cooperatively with us. All grade levels are learning about what respect looks like for people, places, and things. Ask your Mustangs what they know about giving and receiving respect.
Community Connections
One of our staff committees revolves around Community Connections, and in their initial meeting for the year, they decided to share some biker/walker safety tips for our students and families. The image below is a flyer students will be bringing home in their folder and is a great example of something to go over as a family, if your student is a biker or walker.
