CREW Friday Five
December 13, 2024
5 Updates for this week!
Happy Holidays CREW!
Can you believe this is the last Friday Five of 2024?
As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your support and involvement in making this school year a success. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or any other special tradition, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful holiday season.
This time of year offers an opportunity to reflect on the many ways we can come together, embrace the spirit of kindness, and celebrate our diverse traditions. We are thankful for the vibrant community we have built together and look forward to all that we will accomplish in the coming year.
Warmest wishes for happiness, health, and warmth throughout the winter season!
With gratitude,
Ms. Bolasky
1. OMAPalooza is Tuesday!
OMAPalooza is THIS TUESDAY!! Come experience some holiday cheer!! ⛄⭐🎄🕎🎅
SHOW DATE: Tues Dec 17 3:20 pm (See flyer)
PLEASE keep in mind your child will need to be picked up and supervised between 2:45- 3:20. There will be no supervision provided by the school during that time.
Right now the weather is looking really nice for next Tuesday! Mid 70s! Yay! Red Hughes T-shirts are great, but we also invite students to wear any festive shirts or hats (no blinking things, please!). ALSO - once the sun goes down behind the building, it does get cool in the courtyard. So wear LONG PANTS and bring jackets for sure that day 🙂
SOME chairs will be set up, but you are welcome to bring your own chairs and blankets. And wearing your own festive items is encouraged, but not required 🙂 Let's get in the holiday spirit!! ⛄⭐🎄🕎🎅
PLEASE use my OMA Website! https://sites.google.com/tusd1.org/hughesoma/oma-home
All the songs and music are up on the website to PRACTICE for OMAPalooza!! Yay! 🎶🎺🎄📯⛄🎷🎶

Ceramics with Ms. Korman
Ceramic ornaments and wall-hanging decorations are on their way! All students kindergarten through 5th grade hand-glazed their ceramic pieces and then their work was fired in a kiln located in our school’s basement. These works of art are all one-of-a kind and very creative! For more details email: Meghan.Korman@tusd1.org
4. Ecology Update
Ms. Cota and Ms. Gariepy's Kinder classes got to meet some of the red wrigglers from our school worm bin this week! Here they are looking to see the segments that help the earthworms move.

🪴 Your Tax Credit Helps Our Huskies Grow! 🪴
Join us in making a difference for our students at Sam Hughes Elementary! Your Arizona tax credit helps fund amazing programs like fine arts education, chess lessons, and our beloved Ecology and Garden programs.
What is a tax credit? It’s a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Arizona state taxes—at no extra cost to you! Contribute up to $200 (single) or $400 (married), and if you owe more in state taxes than you give, you’ll get every dollar back as a refund or reduction on your tax bill.
Here’s what your tax credit supports:
- Learn healthy eating by planting, harvesting, and sampling fresh veggies from our ‘garden to mouth’ program.
- Study nature by making observations and collecting data on insects, birds, lizards, plants and tortoises in our habitat areas.
- Plan and carry out investigations in seed spacing, composting, watersheds (models), pollination and more!
- Enjoy Sam Hughes traditions, like snacking on grapefruit straight from the tree and blending green smoothies!
How you can help:
- Donate and Make Your Impact: Visit our tax credit portal to learn more and donate online.
- Spread the Word! Share this opportunity with friends and family—anyone who pays Arizona state taxes can help!
