Growing Together @ STL
October 25, 2024
Leadership Message
This past week we said, "See you soon" to Miss Baldo, the Grade 7&8 Humanities teacher and the students worked beautifully together to organize a surprise going away party for her.
There was a moment that moved many of the staff when this story was shared and I would love to share it with you.
As the students all sat together around the same table, equal in their class community, they, unprompted, all stopped to say Grace before they broke bread together! Wow! What great leadership in Faith and respect for each other!
Blessings to you Miss Baldo!
This month, as a whole school, we have been talking about what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to be respectful. We discuss St. Andre Bessette who is an excellent model for respect, as we are all Saints in the making as we journey through the Seven Sacred Teachings. I had the opportunity to listen to even more examples of how we are respectful during Mme Gravelle visits to celebrate hard work!
Sometimes we just have to go for a ride and enjoy the Friday morning warm breakfast, while it's fresh and hot for delivery before school begins! We continue to be incredibly grateful to Mrs. Williamson (and her helpers!) for the delicious nutrition program!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Halloween Howler! May God Bless our parent community for all their hard work to bring this super fun family event to fruition! Music, food, dancing...it's a party!
With abundant gratitude,
Mme Gravelle

This week we celebrated the gift of Catholic Education with mass at St. Francis of Assisi this past Sunday! Thank you to all the families and students who joined us! The Tofield community was delighted to welcome us! It was fantastic to head downstairs, break bread together and share in some delicious food after mass!

Welcome to Mrs. Kozitzky
Thank you for joining us in welcoming Mrs. Madeleine Kozitzky to the St. Luke Catholic School team. The 7&8 class had the opportunity to connect with Mrs. Kozitzky via Google Meet on Tuesday as we planned the Halloween Carnival Games with the ABJ Student Leadership Team. She has also connected regularly with many members of the St. Luke team. She is excited to join our family!
Here are a few fun facts about Mrs. Kozitzky:
- She played volleyball in university
- Her husband is also a teacher and they welcomed their first child, their son Noah, last December.
- She is a provisional psychologist and works in clinics in Edmonton and Camrose when she is not teaching.
- She loves board games and reading fantasy novels.
Welcome aboard, Mrs. Kozitzky!
Evidence of Learning Coming Home!
This coming week you will see your child's learning evidence coming home. This is important information for you to review with your child to see first hand a checkpoint in your child's progress. When you meet with your child's teacher, conversations about learning will come right from this learning evidence.
In the Evidence of Learning Portfolio, you will find no more than 10 pieces of learning evidence.
In each of these pieces, you will notice the outcome/goal/target that is being aiming at, and feedback about its achievement. This may include teacher feedback, with or without self-assessments.
The evidence of learning portfolios are a powerful tool to facilitate conversations about your child’s learning progress.

ACCESS 52
Our students in grade 5-8 had a very exciting event this week with Access52. Students were challenged to find the joy in life even when there is hardship and were encouraged to make the most out of their God given gifts and opportunities everyday!
A special thank you to the REAL (Religious Education Activities for Life) Foundation for funding this amazing event! The REAL Foundation also pays for the Grade 4 bibles so that each student in our division can have their very own copy of God's word!!
Supporting the REAL Foundation Supports Catholic Schools!
The REAL Foundation hosts an annual Golf Tournament for all the people who believe in and support their cause. The admission for this event is FREE, however, as this is a fundraising event (their only fundraising event). They accept and encourage donations to support and sustain their mission - supporting Catholic Education in our communities. Companies and groups are encouraged to register and donate.
The REAL Foundation is already making plans for their 2025 May Golf Tournament! Stay tuned for more information and please consider donating!
Three events at St. Luke Catholic School are funded by the REAL Foundation:
- Access52 (October)
- Grade 4 Bibles (October)
- Face2Face Ministries (January).

STL's Halloween Festivities
We are excited to share with you the plan for Halloween celebrations @ STL!
As always we will begin our days with prayer and announcements...in our costumes.
Early in the day, while our costumes are all in one piece, at approximately 8:30am all students will head to the gym for a small dance and costume show-off parade. All parents are invited to join in.
Grades will return to their classes for their in-class celebrations the rest of the day.
Grades 5&6 will make and prepare a special Halloween snack for all STL students and deliver them to the kids.
Grades 7&8 students will be working with Mrs. Kozitzky to build a Haunted House for all kids to enjoy later in the afternoon.
Super fun day!
Announcing Grade 3-8 Board Games Club!
Next week Mme Gravelle will be launching a grade 3-8 Board Games Club (BGC) at lunch recess on Wednesdays in the cafeteria.
The purposes of the Board Games Club are to build:
- Connection and community
- Capacity in a variety of games
- Problem Solving and Executive Functioning Skills
- Positive and Inclusive social interactions
- Joy and laughter
- If someone doesn't know how to play a certain game, kids will teach each other how
- If a student would like to play a game, they are welcome to join.
- Duration of play will be during the lunch recess, with clean up time built in before the bell.
- Positive, respectful and inclusive social interactions = continued play
If your child would like to join...Great! If you have an intact board game they are interested in playing and you are willing to donate it - double great! Thank you!
We do have some games at St. Luke to start us off. If you have an intact board game you would like to donate - Thank you in advance! Mme Gravelle will gather them in the office.
So excited! Thank you for your support!
Got a Love Seat?
We are on the hunt for an any-colour leather or faux leather love seat (in excellent condition) to create a safe space to connect near the chapel. If you happen to have one, please reach out to our Family Wellness Worker Mrs. McCann at stl@eics.ab.ca. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Christmas in the Country
Together with St. Luke Catholic School, the St. Luke School Council and Parent Association is thrilled to once again be a participating venue in Strathcona County's annual Christmas in the Country event! This event enables our school council to provide student enrichment and volunteer opportunities within our school community.
This year, we are offering students the opportunity to be their own boss with the addition of our Young Entrepreneurs Maker Market! Located in the foyer and main hallway, spaces will be $10.00 each and vendors will be responsible for bringing their own table (no more than 6 feet long). Chairs will be provided.
Below is a link to the Google Form application to be filled out if you are interested in joining us this year, either in the main market or the Young Entrepreneurs Maker Market. Our main market is nearly full so don’t hesitate to get your form filled out! Young entrepreneur registration should be filled out by a parent or guardian using the parent or guardian’s contact information. Included in the form is the St. Luke Parent Association Treasurer's email for e-transfer payments.
