District Update - October 4
Superintendent's Message
Hello, Midview Families,
Well, we’ve officially wrapped up our first month of school, and I think we can all agree—it’s been a very eventful one! From the buzz of the first week to the excitement of getting back into a routine, it’s been a whirlwind. But amidst all the hustle and bustle, I’m proud to say that our students have been hard at work, engaging in meaningful learning every single day. It’s been fantastic to see their dedication and growth already.
As we head into October, it’s a great time to connect with your child’s teacher, especially with our first parent-teacher conferences of the year taking place. These conferences offer a valuable opportunity to check in on your student’s progress and collaborate with our dedicated educators as we approach the end of the first quarter. Working together, we can ensure our students succeed throughout the year. Please refer to last week's school e-newsletters or our building web pages for conference dates and sign-up information, or feel free to reach out to your child's teacher directly.
We also recently received the results of the Ohio School Report Card, and I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work our team has put in to ensure that Midview students receive an outstanding education. Of course, as always, there’s more work to be done, but the progress we’ve made together speaks volumes about our commitment to excellence. You can read more about the report card results and what they mean for our district in the full story included in this newsletter.
Finally, today marked our first professional development (PD) day of the year! While our students enjoyed a well-deserved break, our staff took a deep dive into valuable training focused on the Science of Reading and Dyslexia. These PD days are essential for us to continually improve and grow in our work and provide the best educational experience for our students.
Thank you for your continued support and trust. It’s an exciting time to be a Middie, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of this school year has in store!
Warmly,
Dr. Frank Major, Superintendent

Middies in Action
North Elementary School Counselor Mrs. Hamm has recently started her classroom lessons, visiting each classroom every other week. First graders learned how Whole Body Listening can help them focus and learn, while Kindergarteners enjoyed a story about the various feelings we all experience.

Along with Miss Karwoski, Teacher for the Visually Impaired, Mrs. Kaiser’s class created bird feeders using paper tubes, string, toilet paper, and bird seed. They discussed the upcoming colder weather and how birds need to collect food during this time.
5th graders in Mrs. Kauffman's class completed the longest paper plate STEM transformation challenge: How long can you make one paper plate by cutting it in creative ways? The current record is an impressive 52.4 feet, set by Amelia Nelson last year!
Seventh graders explored ecosystems, focusing on the biotic and abiotic factors that comprise them. They studied limiting factors and the carrying capacity of ecosystems, then connected their learning to the four spheres of the Earth: geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere. Each part of an ecosystem plays a role in one of these spheres. Students created beautiful landscapes depicting various factors and color-coded them to link each to a specific sphere. Midview Local Schools dedicated a POW/MIA Chair of Honor at Adelsberg Stadium to honor U.S. military personnel who've never made the journey back home. The ceremony included a motorcycle procession of American Legion Riders and local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a 21-gun salute, the unveiling of the chair by our Midview Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC), and taps performed by Midview High School student Aaron Naugle.
Miss Heestand's Kindergarten class began the year working on reading, writing, and recognizing their names! To make learning even more fun, they tore up paper for each color of the rainbow and used it to make each letter of their first name. It was a great review of their letters, colors, and use of fine motor skills. The extra bonus was practice with their names!
Mrs. Dhayer's students had a great time making cookies for the East staff! They calculated the cost of supplies and, while baking, applied their understanding of fractions to represent the amounts of ingredients used compared to those that were not utilized. It was a delicious way to reinforce their math skills!
