Cobra Strike
From the Desk of the Junior/Senior High School Principal
"Wait, you don't get federal holidays off?"
As we all appreciate the day with our families today, it is nice knowing that today is a federal holiday not just for a vast majority of our nation, but also the staff of Jackson Heights. Allow me to demonstrate how a normal calendar works. Students get the holiday off, and school administration see that day as a good one to have a Teacher's In-Service. While students get the day off and enjoy it greatly, teaching staff typically work through days like these in professional development days. This year, we hired an outside agency to help us with curriculum development and vertical alignment. Because of this, we had to work within their schedule. We also took advantage of this and we decided to generate a calendar that gave staff the holidays as well so they could relax and benefit from the three day weekend as well. It may feel a bit wonky having an in service day in the middle of the week, but we were working with other teams schedules for this and we also wanted to help out our staff as much as possible as well.
I know we still have activities in here, but at least we all get to enjoy the day with out families.

Football documentary
I kind of waited to write about this one until I had confirmation. However, don't miss this Tuesday's 10 pm news on WIBW as they will be highlighting the digital media classes football documentary that was produced this past fall. Mr. Alley switched over to start the digital media program this school year and he was rightly nervous about the endeavor. After one semester, I would argue that it is one of the most popular programs and students are trying to bend their schedules to figure out how to get into the classes. The football documentary was a bit of a passion project that came out of the Fall. Under the direction of project manager Emma Butler, the documentary took on its own persona as they were building it. Students kept on showing me the footage with delight as they progressed through its development. I was delighted with the outcome of the project in the end. I am very glad that Mr. Alley took the leap of faith and started this program.

While this winter weather has put quite the damper on my January bird hunting, I just wanted to remind everyone that there are few sights more impressive than that of a GSP retrieving a pheasant. Here is ole Banjo 10 years ago on his very first ever retrieve across a frozen lake.
It's a great day to be a Cobra!!
