Dear Lions Park Families,
I hope your families enjoyed the holiday weekend. We were glad to see the students back at school, even if it was for a short week.
During the first weeks of school, we have been explicitly teaching your children the expectations for behavior in all areas of our school. Our school expectations are that students be safe, be respectful and be responsible. We have a matrix that details what this looks like and sounds like in different areas of the school. Students have watched videos showing what these expectations look like on the playground and in the bathrooms. On the first day of school, students visited the lunchroom before the lunch hour to hear and practice those expectations. We also discussed and practiced how they should act in the hallways. Teachers continue to model and practice classroom routines and expectations. We have a reteaching time available during recess for students who may need additional reteaching and practice throughout the year. This time is run by Lions Park staff and there are books, videos and opportunities to get up and role play expected behaviors.
We are in need of seven instructional assistants at Lions Park. In addition to wanting to hire four concurrent assistants to support our students who are learning remotely, we have three special education positions available. These dedicated individuals support individuals, small groups, and classrooms. In addition, they provide supervision at arrival, dismissal, lunch and recess. If you know anyone who may be interested, please encourage them to reach out directly to me.
Below are a few notes about drop off and pick up times at Lions Park.
- While masks are optional outside at PE, recess and other times classes go out during the day, they are required at arrival and dismissal. This is aligned with the district guidance shared by Dr. Gorr in August.
- Thanks to all who have improved the situation in the back parking lot. Pick up is going much more smoothly there. We appreciate your cooperation!
- If your child exits Door 2, please ask them to walk to the end of the driveway and cross at the sidewalk. With the buses pulling through that driveway, we want to ensure all pedestrians can be seen clearly.
