Llewellyn ES Principal Announcement
Dear Llewellyn community,
I am pleased to announce that Diana Collins will be the new principal of Llewellyn Elementary School.
Diana is coming to Llewellyn having worked as Sellwood Middle School’s assistant principal for the last three years. At Sellwood, she not only spearheaded the implementation of restorative justice practices, which resulted in a decrease in suspension rates. She also catalyzed tiered academic and behavioral interventions that set the school’s Climate Team, Student Success Teams, Student Intervention Team, and SpED up for success. In addition, she served as Sellwood’s Title XI coordinator, creating individual education plans to address recurring incidents, and was instrumental in empowering the Instructor-Led Training team’s redesign of its mission, vision, and schoolwide values.
Prior to her time at Sellwood, Diana served as a Teacher on Special Assignment as a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Specialist. In that capacity, she helped identify and align Tier II behavior intervention strategies for schools, revised and supported the School Intervention Team (SIT) process in secondary schools, and collaborated with the Crisis Response Team and school leadership teams in addressing racial discrimination incidents. Equity has been a focus of her career, and since 2021 she has partnered with the Anti-defamation League to design school-wide advisory lessons and train student leaders in the No Place for Hate model.
Diana started out in education as a classroom teacher at Peninsula K-8 where she taught language arts and social studies and worked as a reading intervention specialist. She also taught at George and Robert Gray middle schools, dividing her time between language arts, science, social studies, and the AVID program.
Diana earned her BA in communication students from California Polytechnic State University, her Master’s in curriculum and instruction from Portland State University, and her certificate in Educational Leadership from Lewis and Clark College.
Please join me in congratulating Diana Collins on being named principal of Llewellyn Elementary School.
Cordially,
Dr. Jon Franco,
Chief of Schools
